Not to be negative but in 2013 we returned 10 starters on defense (I believe). Clearly experience isn't the problem.

Experience was part of the problem. Talent was another. I think this year we return many of the "right" starters, and supplement that with some far more talented role players. Still not perfect, but a much more talented roster than we've seen in I'd say five years. Good enough to improve noticeably, IMO.

Yep, talented depth has been an extreme issue with us...For example- FSU loses 7 defensive players to the NFL but finishes with a Top-3 defense and the #1 pass D the following year. There is a huge gap between the two schools as far as depth.

These dudes really have destroyed our defensive standards. It still blows my mind that they have had defensive units ranked in the 100s!!!! I hope and pray we make the big jump in year 2 in the full scheme.

The defensive results are worse than what the talent should have produced. The 100s is frickin ridiculous and unacceptable.

Besides DT, our talent on defense should be no worse than top 30. Players all over the defense that could have chosen their school. ****, even Wyche and Big Heurt had legit BCS offers. **** excuses. Fix this mess.

Won't matter because we have bottom 10 coaching on that side of the ball. Defense won't break the top 50 on the field. I am sure Golden will spin that as progress.

My problem w/ the D is the scheme. It's a passive/agressive 3-4...not an attacking/agressive 3-4 like Bama, and the Seahawks run. All this engage w/ your man and hold the edge stuff gotta go, ESPECIALLY when you don't have the athletes for it. We had guys running 4.8's playing LB and S...and our "speed" packages, (nickle/dimes) had guys running 4.7's. FOH. Play to your talent level...now that we have the talent level, maybe we can go into an attack 3-4 scheme, intergrate some 4-3 and 5-2 looks...allow the Corners to press while allowing our safeties to roam. Then, MAYBE just then, we can field a top 25 D. HOWEVER, if we babysit in a zone again like we did all last year, look for an epic fail.

Unfortunately, you have to be a realist, top 30 would be unbelievable at this point

There's better talent on this defense than top-30 IMO.

We have more talent than the 2010 defense, which was near the top in many defensive categories.

We have alot more talent than Wake and they finished #31. If Miami can't finish with a Top-10 defense in the f-ing ACC again Dorito better be sent packing...

I'm gonna let you in on a secret. this is Fat Al Goldens defense. doesnt matter if Dorito is gone. he isnt the real problem.

It is depressing. We were top 30, even when our talent started to fall, because defense at Miami doesn't have to be rocket science. It should be simple stuff.

Golden design. Make the defense as ****** as possible so you will beg for a top 30 defense. Did it at UVA as well.

From 1999-2010 we had 2 defenses that were ranked worse than 30.

2000-30th ranked (5th in scoring however) and in 2007-33rd ranked (52nd scoring).

In Golden's three years at Miami thus far he hasn't had a defense ranked better than 45. Talk about lowering the standards.

that 2007 defense was a MASH unit too. that was rock bottom talent wise (maybe comparable to the 2012 unit). I remember how terrible I thought that defense was then. WOW have these clowns really lowered expectations

yeah and that "great" top 20 defense that F.A.G. got in 2004 at UVA was not really very good if you look deeper (see my previous post). it was a below average unit for Miami (old) standards.

there isnt a chance in **** that F.A.G. can put out a great defense
