1/7 vs FSU

I might have missed it, but why wasn't Lonnie playing much towards the end of the second half? Don't remember seeing him at all in the last 8 minutes.

Because the combo of Lykes/Brown/DJ/Amp was working and Coach didn't want to mess with that rotation. Also, when Lonnie was in, he was getting torched on the defensive end.

Yep. Lonnie looked like a defensive liability tonight.

I'm constantly impressed by the other four you mentioned (on both sides).

Yes...and if you were watching the game on TV, Corey Alexander mentioned how the next practice could be interesting with Walker and New-tun sitting on the bench so much. New-tun should (should) be able to handle it being a senior and having been in that spot before. I'm a little anxious, however, to find out how Walker comes out of this.

Walker been sitting on the bench at the end of games all year.

Not true.

Games that are close, yes it is.

Well Lonnie was in at the end of the Minnesota game, and I thought he was in toward the end of the New Mexico State game too.

IV missed the front end of a 1 and 1 at a key moment @GT. He contributed for the first minute of the FSU game and then disappeared. He doesn't look ready for ACC competition (both offensively and defensively) let alone NBA competition. Lykes on the other hand...electric and fearless. He obviously should be starting.

Newton played 17 minutes, Walker 15 (second least in the rotation, after getting the start). He's gotta start hitting the three ball to open up his slashes to the hoop. That outside shot, except against BU, just has not been there. He's tight (witness the only three he hit -- don't think he called "glass").

LYkes is the best decision maker with the ball and its not close ; offense should run through him, Lawrence and Newton are walking turnovers

Holy ****... Another missed free throw and then two more offensive rebounds conceded... Thankfully FSU missed their putbacks and we finally got a board. But this is not a recipe that is going to work out very many times.

Ha. And then another offensive rebound for some second chance points on the possession following Brown's free throws. FSU has nearly as many offensive rebounds as we have defensive rebounds. It is unbelievable.

Considering that FSU is freakishly long, with MULTIPLE seven footers on their roster, I'm not shocked they would rebound well. In fact, that's the way they stay in games, because they aren't the best shooting team out there(Ham's teams tend not to be great shooting teams, but they wear you down by getting additional possessions). There are few teams in the ACC that have the sheer size and bulk FSU has, and that's been true for the better part of a decade.

Rebounding has been an issue for us the entire season. While it was more obvious last night because of FSU's height, we give up more than 11 offensive rebounds per game. That is simply too many, and Kenpom's advanced metrics show we are in the bottom third in all rebounding categories.

Great and much needed win.

Negatives- Need to put teams away. That should have been a double digit victory. FSU had no business threatening late. We need to move the ball better late in games. We played one on one ball the last 10 minutes and if it wasn't for fouls being called we would have been in big trouble. We make it so hard to score when we play one on one ball. If we move the ball and attack when defense is scrambling it's almost impossible to stop our guard penetration.

Positives- Lykes is such a spark plug. Creates so much for this offense. Will be tougher for him to do this on the road in the ACC since refs hardly call fouls for us on the road but he's almost impossible to stop when driving. Huell is unstoppable 1 on 1. Even against a team with FSU's length, he was still a force down low. Brown took on the leadership role once again and lead this team. He's so good at attacking the rim and those free throws late were clutch.

Clemson game will be very tough but we should expect to beat Duke next Monday night. Under L, we win at home more than we lose against them.

BB was aggressive tonight going to the rim. His energy was a welcome sight. 12 for 14 FTs.

Huell's upward trajectory continues. I've been a cheerleader since he got here and nice to several light bulbs going on since last season.

Lykes is a warrior. Contrast his play getting back on D after getting hit on the nose (9:33 mark of second half) with IV's D after missing on a drive to the rim (4:16 mark in the first, IV is then immediately substituted by DJ). IV is struggling but his D is a definite liability.

Mann's third foul early in the second half was big. He sat for almost 10 minutes after that and never was really able to be a factor in the game.

Good to see FSU tossing bricks at the line. Obiaga's one handed FT shooting, lulz.

A good win, yes we got beat on the offensive glass, but nobody's perfect.

If IV was as good as advertised he wouldn't need to be hitting 3s to open up his drives. He would be driving right by defenders regardless.

I don't know if the knee issue is lingering, but IV's poor defense is even more troubling than his lack of offensive productivity. A player with his supposed elite, NBA level athleticism should not be getting schooled the way he regularly does on defense. If Lykes was 6'5 and IV was 5'5, we'd be penciling Lykes in as a lottery pick in 2019 and wondering why IV is taking up a scholarship.

And yes, Huell is beasting.

He's been driving by defenders this year and finishing. He struggled against FSU's length. He needs to realize how good he is at attacking and keep doing that instead of relying on his 3 point shot.
