Holy crap. Sometimes you guys overthink things. We have a crisis at backup center, a position where a smart guy needs to call the blocks, direct his fellow OL, be a cerebral captain out there in Shannon's offense. It's clear we don't have that guy, and there are very few who can come in during the fall and get acclimated in time to be an emergency center. And if you find that guy, he wants to start.

I am sure Mario, Zo, and the staff have gamed out how many kids they expect to have portal out this year, and how many they need room for, and realized that they will have room to take a "safety center." It's not unlike how most teams in most seasons award a scholarship to a walk-on in the spring who won't play in the fall when they realize they have the roster room. It's no big deal. It's literally one spot for only one year.

And while this is certainly speculative on my part, I am guessing this kid is a massive culture warrior, a work-ethic and work-out fiend, who will help push the other guys and set and example as well as being a great locker room kid. He adds some age and maturity to the group. Plus based on who his dad, uncle and basically godfather (Mirabal) is, he's probably a bonus GA too at this point.

You guys catch a lot of feelings, lol. Mario isn't going to deliberately do a single thing to damage this re-build, and he certainly isn't going to waste a spot on the roster. This isn't Playstation.

I doubt the most vocal people on this actually know what a center does. They probably think he just snaps the ball and lunges forward and that’s it, he’s done. He does nothing pre-snap, just walks up and puts the ball between his legs.

the op provides a decent report on possible transfers which most people ignore
a majority of members focus on the luis cristobal news.

Starting to hear more M'Ba buzz now. Not from UM but from reliable source. Let's see how this plays out.

I expect we will add an athletic, 300+ pound defensive tackle.
Makes sense him and bear are the only ones in the portal that fit the profile they are looking for

I was trying to exit this discussion gracefully. But since you have said it's not possible for Mario to pay for nephew's school fees, I have to ask why I am wrong about this? What would stop Mario from contributing to a 529 that is used to pay for his nephew's tuition and fees while he attends Miami as a PWO?
That is not possible.

Watched his film and what jumped out is his quickness within the box and his ability to seek out 2nd and third blocks.

Strictly as a Center he's a take all day.

Careful, need to keep your cool or your going to blow your cover
That's why I responded the way I did.

I honestly didn't know that. I figured there was a family exemption. My apologies.

No need to apologize, coaches have been penalized by the NCAA for doing stuff like this in the past. I mean think about it - it’s the same time as the same thing as giving money for a meal or buying a car, anything like that - you’re providing a financial benefit, and in Miami’s case one that’s around 50 or $60,000 a year.

All good, man, I ain't mad at ya, I just wanted to help reconcile the thoughts of a couple of good posters, you and OCCC.

The center makes the checks at the LOS, it's the most difficult OL position from a mental standpoint but the easiest to play from a physical standpoint.
