Don't think we should give out portal scholarships to player who will never play. He would be at best the 3rd team Center or guard for us.
cmon man.

Rodriguez and Seymore should never see the field. He's better than both. Seriously, did no one watch the scrimmage? They were getting beat by walk-ons. Wouldn't shock me if both transfer (I'm expecting at least one of them).

It's ok to admit they're not going to amount to anything. Cristobal is nowhere close to elite...but he's better than both. And that in essence, is an upgrade.

Is it where we want to be depth-wise, or where we need to be? No. Both things can be true.

Mario brings in an elite C from the portal and two of the top four FR OL of 2023, probably two highest ranked OL to ever sign at The U (Seantrel Henderson notwithstanding) and we're upset over his nephew possibly getting a scholarship. And yes, possibly, because unless a scholarship has been confirmed he may be a non-scholarship player receiving other financial assistance.

And if he is on scholarship, so what? Mario's call.

I want Little Lou to come here. His father and uncle who he obviously grew up idolizing are great Canes. I’m sure he grew up a diehard Cane fan. I don’t care whether he comes as a PWO or scholarship player. Truth is the last 3-5 scholly’s are usually used by the coach to reward walk on’s who have busted their asses in practice helping contribute to the team. Come, contribute to the culture, get a graduate degree and live the dream maybe becoming a GA down the road.

However, this notion that he would be “upgrading the depth” is respectfully laughable. He’s an undersized career backup at a bad G5 program who has only ever started due to injuries. He’s a versatile OC/OG player who can play 3 spots yet he’s going on his 5th year without ever winning a starting spot (his role going into next year was going to be the same before he entered portal).

He’s a smaller, weaker version of Seymour and Sagapulo who suck. He’s basically GA States miniature thrift shop version of them. Our depth sucks but most of it that we are so eager to push out would go to most G5 programs and compete for the starting spot or at the very least have the same role Little Lou has had. It’s why most of them are going to SMU which is a better program.

At most we are maintaining the status quo on the quality of our depth but it’s more likely going to be akin to rewarding Ian Johnson a scholarship for busting his *** in practice (if he’s not a PWO). I’m glad Mirabal cross trains all the Linemen because if Lee gets hurt and little Lou is his replacement we’re going to be in for a long season like last year.

Putting this one out quick because a lot of news is dropping fast:

- Miami trending with Top 100 players WR JoJo Trader (Chaminade) and TE/WR Caleb Odom (Carrollton, GA). Nothing imminent I am aware of, but they would give Miami a huge start to their pass-catcher overhaul with blue-chip WR Chance Robinson (STA), who committed on Saturday.

- I expect a run of commits and Portal additions. As Gaby hinted at on 247, I expect commits from DB Dylan Day (Baton Rouge, LA), OL Juan Minaya (Paramus, NJ) and S Isaiah Thomas (Clearwater). Miami is also trending for CB Ricky Knight (Benjamin), with FSU also in pursuit. People in the building (especially Coach Guidry) are very excited about Day. His frame looked long on his visit with room to add weight, and he has solid testing numbers to go along with outstanding film. He will upgrade the physicality, versatility and instincts of the class immediately. Minaya is someone Mirabal has targeted from the jump. He goes big-name hunting, but he also has his personal giants. Word on Thomas (originally from Toronto) is that he is a big-time talent and should be fully recovered in fall from his knee injury.

- I understand there will be a mixed reaction to a flood of non-blue chip commits, but remember that there were a ton of elite players on campus this month and they all left loving Miami. Those processes will take more time and I'll have more scoop on those visits later in the week. The kids identified above are prospects that Miami has evaluated and prioritized early.

- There is about to be a wave in the Portal. Watch the DT position. As I've been saying for weeks, Miami doesn't just want someone big- they want someone big and athletic. They will add a RB and a nickel. D2 All-American WR JaQuae Jackson is enjoying the recruiting process but Miami is firmly in that battle. Nothing done yet. I expect us to land Lou Cristobal (Georgia State starter) to compete with Ryan Rodriguez at backup center. The priority going forward with be corner.

- Another name to watch is Chris Wheatley-Humphrey from South Plantation. Miami loves him and is picking up momentum.
Hearing anything on TCU WR Jordan Hudson from the portal?

Spot on.

So many words wasted over a dude who's prob gonna be scout team lol
He’ll be the 2nd OL behind Lee in drills when Fall Practice starts. He will be TUFF in Summer Workouts

Not to mention the fact that as soon as an alumni has a child everyone trips over themselves to offer them and then the majority don't do a thing when they come here. Not sure what the difference is in the end.

If Mirabal and Cristobal see something in him to make him a take right now, he's a take right now.
Did you have similar opinions of the 2 Oregon OL transfers as well? Seems like we are still portal hunting for guys at those same positions.

I get it, my opinion doesn’t carry weight like others on here and goes against the grain at the moment.

They were needed depth and bodies. As for the new recruit they are targeting, they clearly see something in him that they feel can be developed into a quality player. Regardless of whatever other qualms people may have with them, Mirabal and Cristobal are two of the most respected OL evaluators and developers in the nation.

Well what’s the plan at DT because there is nothing else in the portal?
I mean if Mario is operating the way we have been told he is, as some recruiting savant, the plan is probably working kids that aren't in the portal yet.

Correct. Whether they hop in remains to be seen...but we are back-channeling and "tampering" just like every other school that gives a **** about football. No secret.

The Worthy and Flowers smoke last year was no joke. Just an example.

I respect them both as well. And yet it doesn’t mean they are always right bc let’s not forget, those bodies for depth were also originally recruited to Oregon by the same coaches, and the first time it wasn’t simply to be a body. If previous Miami coaches or UF/FSU coaches recruited a guy with similar tape I have a feeling some here would be all over them for it. I respect the UM coaches and i absolutely LOVE what this staff did at OL last year......but it doesn’t mean I have to blindly agree with every decision or player analysis. Everyone in this business is wrong…..and often. Look at how poorly some NFL GMs draft vs regular fan votes each year in R1.

I ask that you to take some time to go back and look at all the OL recruits for Oregon from 2017 until Adrian Klemm showed up in 2022. Look at the history yourself and make your own decision about recruiting success and identification of HS players. By the way, Jake Hanson, Calvin Throckmorton and Shane Lemieux were all 2015.
