There is not a Qb in America that will over come the regression we are going to go through on offense next year. Not 1. Or sure tf isn’t going to Emory Williams. We don’t have the defense or or the running game to win that way. 7.5 is our total with him. Id rather just play Nickel and go 7-5 anyway

The defense can’t regress to the mean and improve tho? Yall make no sense.

2 good young safeties. Love both.

But we need some age back there to start next year.
What do you think of these 2 to add

All conference usa

I wanna say Guidry recruited him to Marshall originally. Dont know their current relationship. But he should be a 1 year rental on the cheap that may know the defense already. I know at FIU the games i watched he was a for sure tackler and is built well.

Would have to be a medical check he didnt play this year.

has reps at nickel and deep safety. I could get contact for this one so if anyone could get it to coaches/

Emmanuel K is purely a measurables eval.

It is just simply not possible to watch multiple games of his & come away with the thought that he's anything more than a backup depth player.

IDGAF who else is offering or after him.

MIAMI needs CB's who can COVER, first & foremost, everything else be damned.

It's good they're throwing numbers at the CB problem, they have no other option but to go scorched Earth, but let's not put lipstick on a Pig here.
Agreed. This staff has proven under Guidry it cannot coach up anyone… you need to hand Guidry a sure fire Day 2 picks at DB

It can but our offense was so over the mean that the defense would have to improve astronomically. Consider that if we dropped to just 25, we would average 11 points less than this year at 33 ppg from 44 ppg. If our defense went to 25th overall in scoring defense (we finished 60th), we would only improve by 3 ppg. What is the equivalent improvement needed to offset the -11ppg assuming we come in at 25th on offense? We were 38th in 2023 at 30 ppg, so I’m giving a bump from that. I’ll hang up and listen

I don’t buy for a second that Emory as qb1 is even being considered by Mario. Any chatter to that effect is to keep Emory from jumping in the portal in case Ward changes his mind about playing in the bowl game. Mario has to show that this year wasn’t a fluke and continue the momentum from this season. There’s no way he risks going into the season with a qb room of Emory, Judd, and Luke who between them would enter the season with 2 career starts, 55 completions, and 4 tds.

Portal season is in full swing, and things are changing every day. Here is the latest from direct sources:

- The staff is holding the QB process very close to the vest this year. My best read is as follows: they believe they can win games with Emory Williams, he'll have every chance to compete, but they will aggressively monitor the Portal. Read into that what you will.

- Defensive back is a priority. CB Ethan O'Connor (Washington State) and CB Emmanuel Karnely (Arizona) are on campus right now. Several other visits at CB are being set up quietly. I expect the staff to allocate significant resources to this position, and it won't just be one player. Physical talent and snaps played are the key criteria. They don't want to take an Earl Little who never played at his previous stop, and they want to upgrade the length/athleticism at the position.

- Safety is also a priority. Two names Miami likes: Zechariah Poyser of Jacksonville State and Adrian Wilson of Washington State.

- The staff has a huge grade on Georgia Tech WR Eric Singleton. They are hopeful they can get a visit next week and are pushing hard.

- As I mentioned in another post, Miami is adjusting its recruiting strategy in consideration of the new roster rules. Teams will have more scholarships (105) but less roster spots, which means walk-ons are in danger. Miami is offering scholarships to inexperienced players such as Jonathan Cline (UCF) and Kavion Broussard (Ole Miss) because they are low-cost depth options. The team needs a certain amount of functional OL to run practice, and Coach Mirabal has shown ability to develop "projects" into starting-caliber players.

- The Canes are open to taking the right tight end. They want an all-around player who can run and catch. As far as RB depth, moving Elija Lofton to tailback (if necessary) is a legitimate option. He may be the best runner on the team.

- Three names who were big prizes last cycle and still project for major roles: WR JoJo Trader, WR Ny Carr and S Zaquan Patterson.

- Akheem Mesidor has not made his decision yet and he's one to watch. If he comes back, we are in much better shape at DE. Based on what I've gathered, I don't believe his draft grades warrant him early.

- As opposed to previous years, where we took several DTs, the staff is prioritizing quality over quantity at the position. Keeshawn Silver (Kentucky) and David Blay (Louisiana Tech) are names Miami likes. They want to place a legitimate dude next to homegrown products Justin Scott, Ahmad Moten, and Josh Horton (who has come on in practice).

You left Bain out of your DT mix. He is too slow and fat for edge imo.

This is such stupid logic. You could hope for improvement from any qb in the country, but if they’ve shown nothing to warrant that then that’s all you’re doing. Hoping.

Emory has a mediocre arm with a low and slow release. He doesn’t move well (being generous here). He couldn’t carry a team in a fairly mediocre class and district of Florida football to a winning season in either of his years there. Wins aren’t a QB stat but if you’re going to be a P4 starter you should be able to win 6 ******* games in that district.

Klubnik is a good athlete with an above average arm who was a big time winner in one of Texas’ toughest classifications. He hasn’t lived up to being a top 10 prospect in the country but there are reasons he was seen that way.
Just say you don’t like the guy and throw a tantrum in a corner.

The only thing stupid is believing a kid 3 years into a P4 strength program and put on 20 pounds couldn’t improve an any of those areas until proven otherwise.

None of these QBs, mateer included, are replicating this non-playoff, non-ACCCG year we had with Cam Ward at QB unless the defense gets legit fixed.
Exactly and at worst we’re a power run team with an outstanding O-line and 3 talented backs with that improved defense. Pretty sure Penn St. made the playoffs and the Big 10 championship doing that.

We didn't win the ACC with a Heisman finalist, Davey O'Brien winner & probably a top 3 draft pick.

We're absolutely 100% unequivocally not winning it with Emory at QB.

He's simply not the answer.

And yes I can and am saying that 100% right now & I don't need to see him play next year to come to that conclusion.

He ain't got it. No matter how hard yall want him to have it, it's not there. Small sample size, or large, he's not IT.

I'm judging based off what I've seen with my own two eyes from every snap he's played.

Unfortunately, you're not going to hear any no bullshxt reports in the Spring about him. In fact, I would wager all the reports you'll hear & read will be complete bullshxt.

Sure he could be the QB of the team & theoretically win games, but I'm almost certain were he to be the starter we're not winning more than 8 & I bet money Vegas would agree.

It’s Mateer or bust. Maybe Ewers or Nuss if one becomes available. Resources have been put in place to give Mateer a godfather deal. If that falls through it’ll be Emory from what I’m told and we’ll spend big giving him playmakers. I think we’re gonna need some patience on this one y’all

Ewers, Mateer… Miami clearly wants a big fish. Ain’t **** wrong with that. Unless we get one of those type QBs UM ain’t winning big next year either way. Might as well swing for the fences.

Why spend 1Ms or more on a Mendoza? So canes can win 9 instead of 8? Spend those funds elsewhere
I’ve been critical of Emory but if the options are going with him next year and reallocating the funds to securing a monster Defense vs spending $1 million on Mendoza and hoping dudes like Karnely are the answer then it’s a no brainer give me option A

*whispers*

….We need to give Mateer playmakers too

All jokes aside, I know you are just sharing what you’ve been told. Don’t mind me I’m just thinking out loud 🤷🏾‍♂️.

And "fixed" doesn't mean just upgrading the talent if it's the same scheme/non-adjustment one trotted out there this year under this DC..
Fixed means anyway they can change the level of play - adding players who are actually good and making sure whatever scheme we run functions.
