Then there's something seriously wrong with our LB evaluation process.

LB's like Sammy Brown, Drayk Bowen, Anthony Hill Jr, Harold Perkins, Suntarine Perkins, Red Murdock, Isaac Smith, Whit Weeks, Jaden Yates, Keaton Thomas, Kyle Louis, Austin Romaine, Josiah Trotter, were are all 1st or 2nd year LB's who stepped in & played well right away.

We have a LB room that's 9 deep that only occupies 2 spots given that we don't play a traditional 4-3 or a 3-4 & we're still in need of a Portal LB??

All while playing in a more simplified Defense...

The math ain't adding up somewhere.
I don't disagree. I just think maybe the development wasn't there and/or the defense was too complicated for some kids to pickup.

The last 2 years the team has looked exactly like I expected. These practice reports are meant to generate hope. I'm not knocking anything you provide to the fanbase. This is definitely a curtailed version of those reports, but overall I don't expect any negativity to come from those that have a firsthand view. The hyperboles are unnecessary and create unfair expectations. If Lofton isn't All-ACC it will create more fodder.

The real points of contention are the lack of development amongst HS prospects. The failure to simultaneously recruit QB through the portal and HS. The continuous nature to settle at positions like RB. We aren't going to hear about the actual problems that will hold us back from contention through these reports from you or anyone else with access.
If you hear more negativity will that make the losses sting less?

No, but it would maybe temper some of the all of our coaches and players are the best bull****.
🤷 it's part of the gig man. Everyone needs hype men. I've been watching football long enough I get to know what a team is all about after a few games regardless of what has been said. After Cal I said the defense will cost us 3 games. It is what it is. And I still enjoyed the season.

You sold Zach Carpenter, Matt McCoy and Jacolby George are locks to make a 53?

Yes McCoy, marginal George, no Carpenter. But they plugged in well to the machine Dawson and Mirabalio built. That OL got a 3-yard push on rush plays, and rarely allowed sacks on pass plays. And George did his part, making some incredible plays even if he will struggle at the next level.

McCoy would have started at LG (and competed at RT) but was banged up in camp.

I’ve seen him in person and he is much bigger than you’d expect. Very good traits and the OL staff really likes him. Looking ahead, I hope he stays for ‘26 and takes over at one of the tackle spots.

I really hope all the investment in McCoy, Samson and Kinsler pays off in spades in 26. We need those guys to keep working and become the foundation for our OL that season. Football equivalent of Coach L's best teams.

Because LB is hard enough FOR KIDS WHO ACTUALLY PLAY LINEBACKER.

Linebacker is the least likely position where you can just throw someone in.

Way too many intangibles involved.
@DMoney interviewed someone last year and he said essentially there are a bunch of LBs in SFL that are just athletes with zero LB instincts who don't get asked to do LB things at the HS level and whose tape doesn't show if they have the instincts and intangibles to play LB

I was at practice today. The LB room doesn't look terrible to me. I made sure to stand right next to them.
However, I'm willing to bet that most of them wouldn't have been offered by Hetherman just off length alone. There's only a few bodies in the room that fit the bill. (and they're young)

I'm of the opinion that the LB position is over evaluated (or wrongly evaluated). Traits don't tell the whole story at that position. Never has.
You’re saying our LBs are too long or not long enough? (Pause for the sissys here also)

It’s sounding like Lofton could end up being the next Rod Bernstine.

Amazing.
