I would really love to find a experienced backup QB in the portal. That's a harder sell than all. Just a game manager. You have a better shot at back channeling a NIIL offer to a LB to go into the portal. They will start making portal decisions this week anyway. I will guess between 5-8 more players brought in. I just need to see more players develop during the season.
Yeahh aint too many good experienced QBs signing up to be backups, Your best bet is a young guy with big time talent willing to wait his turn after Beck ala Dante Moore but those dont grow on trees either 🤷‍♂️

So I've heard that Elijah Lofton MAY be the best RB on the team for about a year now from "people in the building."

Is he going to play RB if he's the best player at the position or are we going to play someone who is not as good?

Is this going to be like Brashard Smith? Are we still not maximizing talent usage?

I'm playing devils advocate but still.
Use him all over would be the smart thing to do, RB Carries/Slot/TE/Motion create matchup problems.

Last year this time, you were hearing that:

- Cam Ward was dominating
- Restrepo was poised for a monster year
- Horton was about to make a leap
- Arroyo looked fully healthy and like a future high pick
- Markel Bell would play early
- The secondary was the biggest weakness on the team by far

The team mostly played like it practiced. The biggest disappointments were the DL falling off, Guidry’s defense failing to communicate and Kiko Mauigoa taking step back. I didn’t expect that. But it wasn’t because of practice. It was because those areas looked good in games in 2023.

There will always be things you find out in games. Jaden Harris wasn’t freezing up on Greentree, for example. But last year’s spring gave you a pretty clear outline of the team. The people denying that are just emotional and dealing with their own disappointment by making bad jokes.
Yeah @DMoney that’s why I commented earlier in the thread that there’ll be a lot of uncertainty going into Fall camp mainly because of injuries obviously but especially with QB1…

I asked you before so I’ll ask again…what are you hearing about CB timeline to start throwing the football?

As you said, there were some reports coming out this time last year that actually bore fruit…

Injury stuff is always tricky but sometime in early summer.

We have like 40 guys participating in pro day today. That’s not a 7 win roster. We had a negative seven win secondary, minus OJ, who was a true freshman. The rest of the roster was very good, overall.
I don't know how 40 guys participating proves a point? Beyond Ward, Restrepo and Arroyo will go somewhere in rounds 2-4 (I imagine) and will make NFL rosters and contribute. Damien will also likely be drafted, and Rivers too. So, we had a good offense. We know that. That is fun, but doesn't always translate to wins. Eliminate those 5 guys on offense and I don't know who the other 35 guys are. Obviously on D, we were swiss cheese. That defensive play will lose you games. As good as the O was, the D was that bad . . . that's a 7-8 win team and you hope you have the ball last.

We could have lost to VT, Cal, UL . . . heck, we were down late against Duke too. The singular greatness of Ward propelled us.

This rebuttal is nasty work.

First you said 7. Now it’s 7-8.

Cam was magical and yeah, great players help you win games. Kinda how it works. But Boston College and Pitt both won 7 games last year. If you put Cam Ward on those teams, do you think they’re 10-2 with both losses coming by a combined less than a TD and have a somewhat valid argument to belonging in the CFP? I do not.

Cam was sensational. There were plenty of other kids who were also very, very good who helped him lead the team to a 10-2 season.

We *could* have lost to a few teams. We didn’t. And Cam had a lot to do with that. He also had a lot to do with being in those situations in the first place. Didn’t he fumble on the first drive against VT? Didn’t he throw a god awful pick for a score against Cal? Do we beat VT without Malik Bryant sniffing out a fake FG? My point isn’t to **** on Cam, he was obviously incredible and we’re not nearly as good of a team without him. I could list superlatives for a half hour. But it’s not like the entire roster was a pile of **** and propped up only by Cam Ward. We’re going to have multiple NFL picks this year and likely more next year. Just give the 2024 team a good secondary and we’re probably in the final four. That’s not all because of Cam.

IIRC, when he announced his transfer to Miami initial reports indicated Beck could start throwing and be full go toward the end of spring football.

I know there isn’t much of a difference between end of spring football and early summer, but given our season hinges on his performance, the earlier he starts developing chemistry with the WR corps, the better.

Have there been any setbacks with his rehab?

No setbacks or issues as far as I know.

Ward was the best player in America. He’s going 1/1 because of his individual talent.

But there is a reason he averaged six wins in his two years at Wazzu and won 10 at Miami. He had a much better roster here.

Maybe you could say he elevated a 4-win program to 6 wins at Wazzu, but they won 7 the year before he got there.

Miami was talented, especially on offense, which is why we will have 9-10 players drafted.

Okay fair enough...I believe our defense will actually be a strength this year

But who knows with the offense until our captain gets to the help of the ship

Appreciate you man...keep doing your good work

Well look on the bright side. Qb room is better than the following:
2018 - malik, Perry, pothead jarren
2019 - pothead jarren, Tate Martell and Perry

It’s looking up boys

I'd love to have Kosi and Jarren backing up Carson Beck over what we currently have backing him up. Both those guys over Emory, Judd, and a freshman Luke

Every single starter on offense is going to make an NFL roster, and most of them will likely make it to the second contract. Even if we had just an Average defense, we not only would have made the playoffs, but I think we would have made a run

LB must be down bad if literally nobody gets name checked in a DMoney fluff piece. Yikes.

Facts. So many playoff teams I would have liked to have faced last year with our offense.
