As noted by on3, Miami is selling the development of Mateer's old Washington State teammate Cam Ward and the quality of his supporting cast. Oklahoma struggled in protection last year (131st nationally in sacks), but has hired Mateer's offensive coordinator (Ben Arbuckle) and QB coach (John Kuceyeski) from Washington State.

Miami had the top offense in the nation last season, racking up an average of 538 yards per game and passing for 360 yards each game.
That isn’t going to change overnight!!!
They’re not going to be able to get enough transfers to fix this unit! Plus no talent at WR!! Ain’t no way I’m going there if I’m him!!

I understand if Matter chooses OU because of the coaching familiarity and close to home, but there is no other reason to choose OU over Miami.

The Canes are losing a few pieces, but the biggest piece is replacing Cam. This would be Mateer. Miami has a far superior offensive line, a better wide receiver and running back rooms. Learning a new offensive system benefits him in the long run.

He simply has to look at what Cam did at Miami.

On top of that, would you rather make $2M a year and live in South Beach or $2M a year and live in Norman, Oklahoma? I’m sure the cost of living in South Beach is higher than Norman, but you get what you pay for. If you know what I mean. :)

My guess is this is probably a done deal to Miami provided the numbers are good.

There is a reason - not CLERICAL ERROR - he didnt have "no contact" checked out, and that he's visiting Miami, etc.

OU might have been outflanked here, but Miami has a lot of moving pieces right now that are likely all waiting to come together.

Big swing, but we swung big and waited out Cam Ward and after everything came together. It'll happen again. If nothing else, Mario got this.

I'm still confused as to why people think that "no contact" is some magical thing.

Was the box marked "No Contact Except For Oklahoma"?

Miami had communicated its interest and offer prior to Mateer entering the Portal. And Mateer is free to initiate contact with any one of the 134 Division I-A schools.

The "no contact" thing is just something that soft-shouldered Miami fans turned into a mythical beast.

I just don't think its some clerical error...it meant I'm open to offers.

OU thought he was a done deal, behind the scenes, open n shut case and its definitely not.

This was the point i was teying to make with Jackson Arnold. This wasnt the Oklahoma team that had talent at the skill positions either an what they had has left. This kid is t dumb i gurantee he picks Miami

Miami is definitely a better fit for him than OU, but these young men seem to make decisions with their hearts and not their heads. The most important aspect of securing someone in the portal is relationships and OU definitely has that advantage hiring his former OC. I would be shocked if he comes to Miami.

This is a done deal to OU with the Off Coordinator and QB coach there….he’ll use miami to increase market but overall will waste our time. Miami has nooo chance here the coaches who earned his trust already in OU.
Players transfer 24/7 over a bucket of chicken.. you think they are more loyal to coaches who just walked out on them vs a former teammate/Heisman finialist? I think the latter makes more of an impression. JMO
