As first reported by On3, Miami has emerged as a contender in the recruitment of Washington State star QB John Mateer. Oklahoma, the presumptive favorite, will host Mateer in Norman today.
Mateer was among the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation last season. He passed for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns while throwing just seven interceptions. Additionally, he led the Cougars in rushing, accumulating 826 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns.
A graduate of Little Elm High School outside of Dallas, TX, Mateer stands 6'1 and weighs 220 pounds. He ranked as a three-star recruit and the 124th quarterback nationwide in the 2022 class. His star has risen since then, as he is currently ranked as the top overall player in the transfer portal.

Oklahoma struggled in protection last year (131st nationally in sacks), but has hired Mateer's offensive coordinator (Ben Arbuckle) and QB coach (John Kuceyeski) from Washington State.
