Mario Cristobal: "If you can't identify and recruit, your value to a program is very little."

Miami has been cheeks since basically the Peach Bowl against LSU. Notice I say Miami and not Mario here. Now since you bring up the 2022 season, yeah Cam is much better than TVD and Dawson is much better than Gatt-*** who is utter ****. Like I said it both.

Now in terms of my unproven claim, take a look at the recruiting rankings from 2006 to 2023 and then take a look at the players that were drafted and then lastly compare it to the teams we usually play on our schedule.

Here is an example, look at the players No D had on defense during his time at Miami, some of them still play in the league. Yet our defense sucked. We recently had a real drop off in the draft but for years we would get players drafted, not elite players, but NFL players nonetheless and couldn’t beat **** teams.

Now once again this isn’t a knock against Mario just a statement that you need both players and coaching and using the last 20 years at Miami as an example. That doesn’t dismiss that Mario has elevated the talent on the team just that it’s a mix of both.

Having a couple of guys drafted off your 2-deep doesn't mean you have a talented defense. In fact, in D'Onofrio's five drafts (2012-2016), the draft looked like this on defense:

2012 - (2) a 3rd round DE and a 3rd round LB
2013 - (1) a 5th round CB
2014 - (0) no defensive players drafted
2015 - (2) a 2nd round LB and a 6th round DE
2016 - (2) a 1st round CB and a 4th round S

So in five years worth of defenses, he had seven players drafted, only two of which were in the top two rounds.

But you people keep going with this claim that we had so much "talent".

Indiana might have something to say about this BUT I agree with your overall point. Having big time players is the key to success in college.
And what happened to Indiana when they faced a team that has been stacking top 5 recruiting classes for the last decade?

It wasn’t even close.

No one is saying you can’t field a good team, no one is saying you can’t be competitive.

But if you want year in and year out dominance and contending titles. You need top tier personnel.

The point was they were cast-off and now some of them have been coached up
The actual point is that any one of our RBs could go there right now and take their spot.

Please tell me which RB you are taking carriers and snap from to give to the guys they have there now who use to play for us?

I'm assuming you're referring to this section:

"Recruiting is a marathon. It is relentless, every single day, every second that you're not game-planning and working with your players. Earlier today, I said on the radio that if you can't identify and recruit, your value to a college football program is very little. I'm talking about everybody in the building, from your people in development, your people in recruiting, your people in academics, it's always going to be about the people. The identification process is even more important than the recruiting process. Because if you recruit your butt off and bring in all the wrong ones, you're going to be in worse shape than ever. So in other words, it never stops."

If so, that would be a poster that goes by Dwinstitles. Very humble guy. Also some pretty good podcasts.
thanks sir, but Saban was great at finding guys before the websites were even on them. I think of a Josh Jacobs, dude just found dudes and then they sky rocketed up the charts and rightfully so.

I'm right there with you. As much as I strongly agree with @Dwinstitles the Jimmys and Joes are most important, character, development, playcalling, culture, game experience all matter. That's why you get Texas A&M under Jimbo. Or wasted talent like Willie Williams.

It helps when you have an army of scouts, and guys like Mario as your heads of recruiting. And bags to lock kids down before they even get national attention.

Harris voter...right here. Probably unsure of what bathroom to use
Can't help yourself huh? Keep that **** in the town hall (coming from someone that voted red).

We don't need politics on the main board

And it’s always warming to be first on a kid when no one believed in them
