OR maybe people could be logical enough to realize schematically we could very well see improvement with the exact talent we already have in the room. Not saying necessarily that we will. But as y'all have said over and over gattis was a part of the problem last year. So replacing one of the problems should imply improvement. Some of the people in the wr room, (especially considering there's already new talent in the room)should see serious improvement not only cause of the scheme but cause it's another year of game experience as well. Can't realistically expect every kid to come from high school or other schemes and instantly give peak impact. Let's see what changes coaching can make when it's given a significant opportunity.

I expect you’re right about improvements. We already saw major steps taken in the Soring game.

Gattis was horrific, TVD played tense then got injured, his replacements couldn’t hit their targets, our OL was porous, Arroyo out for the season and our RBs so banged up that we had a walk-on getting legit snaps. So yeah, the WRs deserve a mulligan no doubt.

At the same time this is where I say plan for the worst hope for the best. We didn’t have one kid above 400 yards last season. All the above is probably the reason. But why not stack the roster more with guys who have already produced at a high level? that way you address the biggest risk on the roster outside of another TVD injury.

And what guys in the portal have already PRODUCED AT A HIGH LEVEL & more importantly at THIS LEVEL... The portal isn't some get out of jail free card. It benefits us POTENTIALLY in the short term and hampers the development of kids already in the program. No one seems to understand this. Not many kids at wr in the portal this year are worth all of that.

Yup.

And too many people are too salty over Mario's comment that "you'll see a completely different team in the fall". They think that means they'll see 85 new players, when the reality is you might see a completely different team made up partly of new players and partly of IMPROVED returning players.

But a lot of people hear what they want to hear.

This is true but I think a lot of us know and have talked about not much in the way of WR in the portal. There are guys who would help but I’ll take Richards at CB over any of the WRs on the list.

So much talk about our talent level. Idk bout yall but I think our starters are actually pretty legit. Definitely top 2-3 in ACC level at minimum. If we land these portal guys we have a chance to be really great, regardless how last season turned out

I too have concerns about WR. I am expecting more of our "improvement/steps forward" to come from returning players, at this point (and barring a surprise development).

But I think with Dawson/Beard, if we had 2022 Zay Flowers considering the Portal THIS YEAR...I think we could convince him to come to UM. Last year? Close, but no cigar.

And I think our NIL bag would have pulled Innis if we had THIS staff when he makes his final decision.

Maybe. I’d like to think so but I haven’t seen any evidence of that. I think they’ll get more out of what we have and show a promising future on the field to start to move things in our direction.

For the record, I said what I said about returning WRs not because they are so amazing, but because we may not have much of a choice in the matter. There's no Addison/Flowers in the Portal at the WR position. So we might have to just ride with the crew we already have.

I lean heavily towards Mario as I hope my posts have shown. But in this point I feel like Mario has had enough time to do better.

To answer your question directly, Franklin for sure adds talent to the WR room. Coleman adds talent to the WR room and even Henderson has more production than anyone on our roster with good go speed.

Oh I agree with that. I’ve been over the WR recruiting thing for the time being. I’m resigned to us not changing the story in recruiting that position until the season when Dawson can show otherwise. We need to build the trenches and wherever else we can get a footing.

Those guys would help but I wouldn’t expect it. And what’s with the Henderson’s and UM if this stuff is true that they asked us for a lot more money than they asked Cincy and Henderson would rather go into his money year catching passes from Emory Jones than TVD???

That’s a much tougher way to get to the league if that’s a real goal.

First page of searching "Mario portal" (see below).

I understand you may want to limit this discussion to some kind of "but it's valid to say it's moving slowly in the spring portal" critique, but that would only be relevant if Miami was some sort of bizarre outlier, the only school in the country with no April Portal verbals yet.

But a couple of days ago (pre-Jaden-Davis), I posted the Top 26 Portal classes on 247. The TWO positive outliers were Colorado and Louisville. Of the other 24 top portal classes (clearly based on January transfer enrollees), 11 universities had NOT GOTTEN A SINGLE COMMIT YET. Most schools had either 1 or 2 April Portal period verbals.

So, again, Miami is not an outlier. We are right there in the mix of 24 other schools that had great January Portal classes, but have not yet brought in more than 2 April Portal verbals.

And I think you'd agree, we had a good Portal effort in 2022 (#12 Portal class, even if our ****** coaching could have been better) and we are currently sitting on the #15 Portal class for 2023, with only one Spring Portal verbal thus far. So we've had 1.5 years of good results in the Portal under Mario, and 3 weeks that are similar to what most other schools that have top-ranked Portal classes are encountering. Spring Portal gets a grade of "Incomplete".

But the negative narrative keeps being pushed.

There are no Jordan Addisons hitting the portal with no where to go already in the works. **** most of these kids with half the production have places in mind or a landing spot set up..I truly don’t understand what folks expect. At the end of the day, that room along with oline, Dline and DB need BODIES WHO CAN COMPETE. This idea that Mario wasn’t doing **** in the portal was always laughable

I don't know if it's a small handful or not cause I don't usually bother to pay attention to names. But the narrative around here that is floated OFTEN is Mario is simply failing and is doing a horrible job. Can't even recruit anymore( that's putting it all in one ball of wax)it's tiresome how miserable these ****** people are. If it is only a small handful then how bout send these people who consistently have to **** all over everything in every thread off to mope purgatory. Cause it's ruining any glimpse of positivity and it drowns out the experience on here honestly. I get people are allowed to say as they wish. But at what point does the majority get any respect either. No one wants to see how often these people ***** when 8 out of 10 there's no basis for it factually speaking.
Misery loves company haha

Especially when what he meant by that is the undisciplined, soft entitled **** is out the window.
