No, but they are constantly on here taking pot shots because the timing is not to their own personal liking. Most of what you are stating is personal opinion which you are certainly entitled to do so.

Here is a fact. The portal has been given us 4 quality starters: Davonte Brown, Francis Mauigoa, Javon Cohen and Matt Lee. I think we can all agree on that one.

Here is opinion. Cam McCormick gives you a quality inline tight end especially when we want or need to run the ball. Quite frankly at worst we are getting a quality special teams player in Terry Porter. We will see if he fully recovers this fall and gives us some help in the secondary. We will know what we have in Branson Deen when he is ready to go in the fall.

You want to argue our first spring commitment, Jaden Davis, is pedestrian which is fair, but you are getting a kid who has played in 47 games and started 22. At worst he improves the room if he brings a good attitude and work effort.

My personal opinion is let's see how this all ends up before we declare victory or defeat in the portal.
With all respect to you, I’m not arguing about any of this and what I’ve specifically taken issue with and how I’m going to respond to it is in subsequent posts to that in this thread.

I’ve seen 1 or 2 posters say he’s done nothing or virtually nothing. Where is this narrative coming from that anything beyond a negligible amount of posters on here is saying he’s done nothing because quite frankly I think you guys who are saying this are making it up and exaggerating.
Its like you're reading my mind!

If we somehow landed the potential portal players, A-grade portal season.

3x starting caliber to very good DT depth
One year rental LB until the '23 class acclimates
NFL caliber CB (possibly 2)
Starting caliber CB (see above, maybe NFL ability)
Promising RB - 4 left to play
Promising C to sit behind Lee
NFL C
NFL OG
Starting caliber LB
High upside WR

I'm sure I'm leaving others out, but that fills a ton of holes.
Yep! From there it would all be on coaching!!

Ref Mardi Gras in May. A few weeks ago I spoke to a La Monroe coach who was out recruiting. He said they had just lost 3 players because of NIL. Told him I was a Miami guy…he did t too too thrilled and said us, USC, and TAM, are paying the most. Alluded to him having to comb Texas for talent to make up for losses. Thought it was an interesting perspective. He added that 23 years ago he went to a HC conference and the topic was a super conference of 50 schools…rest would be a lower tier. Felt NIL was similar to that.

There are no Jordan Addisons hitting the portal with no where to go already in the works. **** most of these kids with half the production have places in mind or a landing spot set up..I truly don’t understand what folks expect. At the end of the day, that room along with oline, Dline and DB need BODIES WHO CAN COMPETE. This idea that Mario wasn’t doing **** in the portal was always laughable

There are no Jordan Addisons hitting the portal without a **** ton of money in the works......and there's no reason for most teams to break the bank for 1 kid if the rest of the roster isn't ready to compete......which is why any kid like that, as you said, would not be in the portal without already knowing where they are going with an NIL already written up. USC has been backing the Brinks truck up for everyone to get that buzz going in LA and for this to be the year they compete.

I'm not sure if he wants to put on weight. Last video I saw was him saying he was 270 but might want to play at 265 this season.
Sure but we are talking about a kid that is 270 his first spring in college. Not always but more often than not that player’s weight will go up not down as he immerses himself into P5 S&C program.

It's almost crazy that through all these rebuilds no one sees a difference between this one and others. U would think fans just joined the board when he got hired and haven't been a part of all the other staffs.

Agreed.

Debate is fine. Criticism is fine.

But a lot of the negativity is lazy and based on "for the last 20 years" generalizations. Yes, Coker was weak. Shannon was paranoid. Golden had a blind eye for D'Onofrio. Richt was in the early stages of Parkinson's. And Manny thought he could fake it until he made it.

They all had flaws, some of them fatal. But it doesn't mean the last 20 years are irreversible, and people can use thoughtfulness and better analysis to see where things are being done very differently.

Superior AD. Support of the President. Far more resources.

Mario still needs to execute and deliver. He's been here for 1.5 years. He stumbled out of the box with Gattis.

My only problem with Mopers is that they ONLY see the bad. They can't pick out the positives and acknowledge them. Or, worse, allow anyone else on the board to acknowledge them without rushing into a thread to spread a thick layer of negativity.

And make no mistake, when I think about who has coached my alma mater for the past 20 years, I have to shake my head...Coker, Shannon, Golden, Garcia (yeah, I'm giving Richt a health pass)...who is the worst coach we have hired?

I used to think that until James Williams. I know Bain has made it clear he's a DE a few times though. Not sure if he will ever be a full time DT.

I saw last night was Rusty Pelican night. Probably a tough weekend for UM with reservations given F1 weekend lol

Hey hey, now, let's not make any Slingblade Billy Napier excuses...

I trust that if Mario brought a dozen recruits to town, he had someone in the Athletic Department make reservations.

Meanwhile, the Gaytors are NOT having any recruits come on OVs this weekend, because they couldn't seem to compete with their own **** graduation weekend.

The difference is HS recruiting and talent influx. If anyone brings up class ranks of the past I dont want to hear it they were bad then and now. The type of kids we are getting would never play here under any previous staff. We are bringing in a different breed of athlete, this is the way we recruited back in the day when the rankings were a complete crap shoot. Pancake Francis etc would never play here in the past 20 years, and no way in **** anyone could convince me other wise. Things will work out in the long term, I cant wait to bring this sh up later when its starts working so those posters can never talk football or building a cfb team ever again. Its about talent acquisition and its always been like that.

If he misses this cycle and we dont get difference makers than yes it can fail. If he keeps on getting elite kids it will work period end of story.

Brudda man here going crazy about the portal. Im antsy to see what we can get out of who we already have. Dawson was working with 3 stars and underrated players and he got them to put up yards and points. I wanna see what he can do with who we brought in. Same for Guidry. No portal players are gonna fix it. The teams that people think kill the portal like FSU happen because the players they already had performed like Travis.

Gattis gone and 2 NFL OL should bring some improvement. In the chain of blame for our offensive woes, WR for me, was last.
1) Decimated OL
2) Bum Gattis
3) TVD
4) WR.
I also think Dawson will get a lot more out of what we have at WR. We could use help at WR but we’re building the trenches first by necessity anyhow. As I’ve said, I’d try Robbie and Ray Ray on the outside.

Really hard to judge how effective the WR's COULD HAVE BEEN last season due to the Gattis disaster. He had the entire offense ... staff and players ... under performing. Worst OC in the history of UM football and possibly all of NCAA football.

Yeah we know it’s not top tier but we can’t know exactly what we have off of the Gattis year.
