CB Tim Merritt commits to Miami

Miami landed one of the fastest risers in the South with the commitment of DB Tim Merritt (Birmingham, AL). The 6’1, 185 pounder, who also has a basketball background, chose Miami over Auburn, Arkansas and Tennessee.

As first reported a month ago in The Bank, Merritt was identified as a major priority for the Canes. The staff values his IQ, length and twitchiness, which gives allows him to be a versatile piece in the backend. Merritt played safety as a junior and will play CB as a senior. Miami likes him at both but he will start as a CB.

Merritt is the 7th commitment in Miami’s class, joining QB Luke Nickel, RB Girard Pringle, TEs Brock Schott and Luka Gilbert, OG TK Muex and LB Elijah Melendez.

Disappointed on Meritt really liked his athletic profile. No idea why you’d commit to a school and just never visit for a game but I guess that’s 2024 recruiting. I’d take some of FSU DBs from there 2024 class, Hussey has regressed. Edwin Joseph is solid.

Definitely need to keep him. He has the size and from and athletic standpoint he clears Stubbs. With Fitzgerald’s next level position projection in the air, they need to keep him.

Recruiting Alabama is weird, it seems like most of the ones you do get are good Mike Jackson, Anex cooper, Bobby Pruitt, Cole mcconathy but some have drama recruitments too in fegans, Kevin Riley, now Timothy Merritt I’m sure there are more.

Doesn’t seem like he was going to sign here, a commit not visiting is weird
