not sure why all the hate, especially when we got Brantley, poyser, actively waiting Lucas, and chasing others as well - not like we're choosing this dude over another prime target.

let them battle it out, and get as much length and athleticism as you can in that secondary to avoid a repeat of this season

They’re still hunting at safety
I'd be dipping my toe in the Portal water if I was a Miami DB on scholarship right now.

What's that, 4 DBs already, with us heavily linked to at least 2 more. Yikes.

You can tell from video ?

I'm going through and watching the portal guys to write them up. His tv copy you can see isn't perfect by any means.

That said, CB is very much a tools position. Miami is lacking in players with tools in that room. You take every 6-3 fluid mover with speed and ball skills you can get.

If nothing else, you're getting a depth guy who can play specials and has outcomes possible that almost no one else in the room does.

He certainly isn't being penciled in as a starter already.
I can agree with that. I’m not mad at all if he comes here and is CB4. Right now it’s OJ, Brantley, and then he’s 3. Need at least 1 of O’Connor or Lucas (if he’s even a corner) before I feel good about it.

Yeah, I first got into Van Halen with VH II (Beautiful Girls and Dance the Night Away). I was 10 years old, VH II was a bit brighter and less dark than VH I and Women & Children First.

So when I first saw that commercial and the riff to Beautiful Girls came on (and considering it was an ad for *** beer), I just laughed my *** off. If you watch it today, they put some soundalike music on the ad which SUCKS compared to the genius of Edward Van Halen.

Van Halen gets a lot of love, but still not enough in my opinion. One of the GOAT bands.

These guys to have one of the top CB rooms in the nation I love it

Women and Children 1st is probably my favorite though I love I and II as well.

First 4 are god-like. I got into the darker albums (I, W&C First, Fair Warning) in my teens.

It's amazing to realize that a song ("Voodoo Queen") from their original "Gene Simmons" demo was still good enough to be repurposed on their FOURTH album...

The Brown Sound. Eddie's favorite album. Look at him play Michael's bass during the breakdown...

Here’s what I’ll say on this one:

I haven’t seen Karnley play a game, just like 98% of the people in this thread. And I certainly haven’t seen the coach’s tape. Those that have rate Karnley highly (he’s the #6 CB in the Portal), but that’s only their opinion.

Let’s watch the guy play extended snaps at Miami before we start a narrative. The negative, uninformed BS doesn’t do anyone any good.

DJ Ivey is a perfect example. He had a bad mental mistake against Georgia Tech and the narrative began that he stunk. He heard the noise, his confidence sank, and it began to affect his performance.

I saw him on Greentree and said he was an NFL corner. People treated me like I was insane. They said he wasn’t even FBS. Of course, he is now an NFL corner.

The coaches and Ivey himself deserve blame for him not performing to his talent at Miami. But the noise didn’t help, and it was especially unfair to a kid who worked harder than anyone and loved the Canes.

I don’t know if Karnley will follow in Ivey’s footsteps as an NFL corner. But I sure don’t want a repeat of that experience. Let’s watch the guy actually play extended snaps before telling the story of his career.

My bad. I mean Fair Warning is my favorite. Woman & Children 1st is 3 or 4.

He is an NFL corner. That’s a fact. I said it ahead of time and got called a lunatic.

He did not play that way here. Part of that was coaching. Part of it was Ivey himself. But, as I and coaches like TRob said at the time, a big reason he underachieved is because he lost confidence. And that’s due in no small part to maniac fans that were extremely loud on social media.

Maybe he shouldn’t have paid attention to that stuff. But it’s real. Look at how grown men on here react to internet arguments.
Did Ivey come out and state publicly that he lost confidence due to fans roasting him on social media for his pathetic play? Dude had no one to blame but himself. Sucked *** in college.

I’ll also add, coaches have been garbage for a while at UM. Current HC just adds to the list!

What we are doing at nickel makes no sense so it absolutely makes sense. 🤣
I'd argue there aren't great Nickels in the portal. I'd have tried to tamper 10x harder for Ponds than we did for Lucas....

👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 Selling his potential based upon his measurables is one thing and who can really dismiss that but selling based upon his film that’s there, nah brah I don’t care what the “professionals” say. I know what my eyes 👀 saw.

Yes, I saw some of the Kansas State, Utah (I'm a fan of KW), Colorado (for obvious reasons-Heisman battle) and Arizona State and he was underwhelming. For me, It seems like wash, rinse, repeat. Go after the Tony Grimes type (proven commodity) or a D Ponds type (young but showed he can handle the fire) with plenty of talent in the middle. I don't base my analysis/comments on other teams targets so I don't compare UM to other programs (Ole Miss, etc) just on filling our needs with players that can actually play the position.

I don't make comments based upon others (as demonstrated by my post count), I make them based upon my own assessment and experience. I played football-WR and baseball @Miami Central and in college years ago. Coached some too so there's that, like a lot of cats on the site, so not grandstanding.

Again D$, look at our track record with DB's, it's atrocious and they seems to all come out of barrels looking like this. It's DB (and WR) talent in the portal but we struggle mightily in these areas. We are actually sitting home getting ready to watch the playoffs after having the #1 offense and a Heisman trophy candidate because of the lack of DB play (among others) and it seems the staff has learned nothing.
I put a lot more weight on the opinion of people like you, @JayCane20 and @Memnon who have actually watched this guy play. There are also coaches from teams who play good defense (not UM) who value the player. That's the fun of this stuff, people have different opinions and we won't know until they develop.

On paper, this seems like a traits-based evaluation at a position where traits are very important. I am excited to watch this kid on Greentree and hope he develops more than other players we've had recently at the position.

Brown probably 3rd

For the record, I watched about 250 of his 380+ snaps from TV copies.

Probably saw about 50 more but couldn’t see enough due to camera.

My opinion is far from uninformed or guessing from some twitter clip. Im not DB guru but I feel pretty confident he’s a) not good and b) not going to get good coaching that he’ll need to reach this “ceiling” he supposedly has from the coaches currently in this program.
Honest question…

Do you feel that Chevis Jackson can’t coach (and potentially help this kid improve) given how our corners played? Or is it that the players in the room were not P4 quality?

Could it be that Guidry’s defense didn’t help our DBs? (Like late blitz from deep safety vs Syracuse)
