Zach Rice 5 star OT

Maybe we wouldn’t get him, but that’s not my point really here. It’s about an indication of how we recruit, relative to how we should recruit and how others recruit.
What you mean exactly? How we should recruit and how others recruit?

It's hard to say a lot from anecdotes but when you see enough of them, you can form views.

The personal, consistent, committed involvement of some head coaches in recruiting is notable. Orgeron in this anecdote. Urban Meyer always got mentioned similarly. Manny is not that way. Richt wasn't. Golden wasn't. Shannon wasn't. Coker wasn't. Trend?

Secondly, the 'arguments' we're selling are just dumb from a marketing perspective, if they're what he talks about (and that's a decent indication of what he thinks they are). For us, it was facilities and next year's class. These are both points we'll (a) lose on when other schools on his list weigh in and (b) aren't emotional, in any case. If we're selling reasons to come that even if he accepts our arguments we'll lose a comparison to other schools on, then we're doing it wrong. (Might be different if we were competing with Kentucky or Cincy for the kid). And mind you, you're talking about a kid who says he grew up a UM fan! How in the world do we get a kid who grew up rooting for us, and if you accept his comments, his emotional ties are with other coaches and programs? It's backwards. We should be trying to win the one advantage we have here, which is that he grew up rooting for us. That's about emotion. We're always about family (da U blah blah). No reason this kid gets less HC attention from us, or less emotional bonding. JMO from what he said.

Sounds like he has legit interest, but this is the type of kid that Mack Brown has been locking down since he got to UNC.
Really? Brown has only signed two 5*s in three years, neither of whom is an offensive lineman. And over that span, he’s only signed one offensive lineman rated .90 or above.

Not necessarily position, but the top local kids from NC/VA/SC that would've gone to Clemson, Penn State, SEC etc. are now staying home. 17/18 of their 2021 recruits are from those 3 states and he pulled the only 2020 5 star in VA in Tony Grimes (who was originally 2021 but reclassified).
