Minus the beautiful women. And if you decide to have children your kids are going to be going to essential 3rd world schools. Even if you don't have kids the fanciest restaurant in the area is going to be applebees. If you say "well I cook all my own food" you still are going to be stuck going to krogers, good luck trying to find plantains at a Kroger in bama.

Now if you don't ever want to leave your house, are married, have no kids, and don't enjoy eating ethnic food. Then sure living in Alabama is the same thing as living in Cali.
California public schools are just as bad. They rank really low in all categories lol.

I just prefer not be surrounded by people. LA, SF, and Miami are just too congested for me.

As far as Alabama, I just drove through there earlier this week. While the population density is nice, I'd prefer not to do my shopping at Dollar General and the sight of delapidated and half collapsed barns and houses isn't really my thing either.

Who is talking about public schools? If you want good public schools you are going to have to go to the north east. We are talking about being wealthy. The wealthy in cali are not sending their kids to PS 112 in Compton. In Alabama they don't even have good private schools.

Come to Atlanta. You can live in Midtown in high density, or 15 minutes away in a neighborhood with an acre of land. I can see the top of the buildings in Midtown from my street (I live on a ridge), and still have deer walk thru my backyard. We also have much better shops than DG.

We were at Stone Mountain a few years ago and it wasn't difficult finding good restaurants. If she ends up going to GT, Atlanta's definitely in the running.

Yeah I would not recommend living in Stone Mountain. But I certainly recommend Sandy Springs or Vinings/Smyrna on the Northside, Decatur on the east, and Midtown if you want a walkable community. Good luck with Tech. Great school. I am hoping to have one kid transfer into Tech next year
FYI, Tech has made it much easier to transfer than to gain admission out of high school. Keep that in mind if needed.

Thanks for the tips. She'll have 60 credits when she graduates high school but colleges still see her as an entering freshman.

I actually got into Miami as a transfer.

My belief, with ery little proof, is that colleges keep their rankings/SAT averages/GPA averages elevated by reporting incoming freshmen. But they need to admit more students to make money and that is why it is easier to transfer. Basically front door vs back door.

There are many days when the traffic and the crowds **** me off and I live in Broward. But man, I have family that lives in the pan handle and the whole having to drive 20 minutes just to get to Walmart, which is also the only store less than 1 hour away, would drive me crazier. I could probably move out of south Florida one day but it would just be to another metro area.

I can get how some people like that slow lifestyle, so I appreciate that but I'd go crazy with boredom.

I live in a somewhat rural area that has become suburban. I'm okay with up to a 30 minute drive, which gives me most of northern Palm Beach County.

Of course, I work from home and love the commute. I'd rather travel on vacation than drive to the store in the evening.

Well I work from home lol. But even when I go out its not like I am constantly driving past homeless encampments. Regardless its not like they effect my quality of life. I feel bad for the mentally ill I don't look down on them.

Apparently you reserve those feelings for people who live in Alabama. :monkey-serious:

Or the Zombies in San Francisco

I made it clear to my employer that I have a strict "No San Francisco" policy. I refuse to enter the city of San Francisco for any reason, not even for work.

There was a time when I used to get super excited any time I got a chance to go into the city whether it was for work or play. Now I wont even entire that 3rd world *****-hole.

We live in south Buckhead in Garden Hills and love it. Will need to make a decision when our kid starts elementary school, but it’s a great part of the city.
