Yearby vs Cook?

Good post, ChrisArg. As you touched on, Yearby is an extremely efficient runner who doesn't need to gear down or use a ton of space to cut.

My biggest issue with him is size. From when I've watched him live or on TV, he's never looked particular stocky or strong. The good runners of Yearby's "type" are often built like tree trunks. If he can bulk up to the size of a Mark Ingram, then he can be that type of runner. But that remains to be seen. If he doesn't put on that much more weight, his lack of speed becomes a greater concern.

True

He got scrawny legs? Because that's where guys like Ingram and Emmitt Smith are built like linemen. In the lower half

There's a reason the MC staff gave Yearby more carries than Cook

Lockette sold his soul to get Yearby to even go to Central. That's why he's gotten more carries. Cook doesn't have the personality to complain, but it could come back to hurt Lockette this year because there is still talk of him transferring.

Anybody who watches Central play is surprised at Cook's lack of touches. I'm going to estimate Cook only got the ball on a reception or carry about 10 times a game, which is absolutely incredible considering the numbers he put up.

The one knock on Yearby that I have is that he rarely breaks away at the high school level. Speed isn't everything, but let's not act like it isn't important.

Both are great backs, Cook has more upside. Yearby wants to be a Cane and that's all I need to hear. Give me a class of Yearby and Sony and I'm happy.

Pete...sometimes you sound like Vette

BTW, Gio just measured in at 5'8" and 202 pounds at the combine. Yearby looks to be in the same range once he gets into a college weight program.

I gotta be honest. I fell into the trap of calling Cook better than Yearby and Michel based on that top end speed, but there is a lot to be said for those natural runners. Those guys that can find 6 yards when most guys could only find 3. Duke has it. They are different backs. I guess it just depends on what you prefer. I don't think that it's as cut and dry as some people make it out to be. Some people prefer that natural and instinctive runner and others prefer the H/W/S guy.

All of a suddenly Yearby is better than Cook, lmao...

I wont say much because I understand the biased at the moment but anybody who understands central and been to games knows whats up. Heck what nobody has mentioned is besides Cook putting up better numbers on much less carries and half the offensive snaps is he played EVERY snap on Defense his second half of junior year and special teams, dude is a terror. Sucks that he has alot of issues to deal with. I have alot of respect for Yearby and did even before the commit (check previous Yearby vs. Cook thread, heck I might even bump it for the lulz), at the end of the day a really good get and you take it every day of the week. Cook is the best player in dade though, make it happen Golden.

Saying that Cook is better shouldn't take away from the fact that Yearby is a great back.

I believe Yearby gest more carries than Cook because Cook is also Central's best DB, and is often locked up on the opposing teams best WR. Cook can't be the main cover guy and the workhorse RB. But Cook could probably be the best DB is South Florida if he chose that position.

Bakas made the comparison of Yearby = Gio Bernard and Cook = CJ Spiller, which seems pretty accurate to me.

Cook just has more potential because of his ridiculous athleticism.

Some back just don't do well with too many touches, CJ Spiller comes to mind. Yearby sounds like the workhorse, Cook the breakaway guy.

Cook has shown 0 signs of slowing down as games/seasons wear on. I'm going to disagree with you on that.

Like skyman posted, I understand people's excitement and bias now that Yearby is committed, but Cook is better. Plain and simple.

Are you in the Cook > Sony camp as well?

/ never said he wore down, just figured there was a legitimate reason yearby got alot more carries, perhaps the db angle is why.

Better stats or talent in high school does not mean better talent or stats in college, the same way better talent or stats in college do not mean the same in the NFL.

The issue to me is Cook is a future All-American, McGahee, McFadden, Peterson like talent, IMO. This is overshadowing a guy like Yearby, who can be a monster in his own right.

Until I see Sony play fully recovered, I will take Cook over him.

After watching Yearby's 2012 clips, I think he's pretty **** legit. And I also don't see speed being an issue -- he breaks off several TD runs in those clips where he beats defenders with an angle on him. He looks, to me, like a solid to high 4-star prospect. Sure, maybe Cook and Sony have higher upside, but I don't think you turn down this committment.

Exactly. Im not turning down Rashida Jones because I MIGHT have chance to bang Jessica Biel.

You take this commitment 100 times out of 100.
