Xavier Lucas in the portal

Absolutely not, that's why NIL is kept from University matters in legal language.

But I've always said that I wanted to read a NIL contract in full. Only seen pieces of it.
I understand what you are saying, but I am talking about revenue sharing, not NIL. Revenue sharing is coming online in 2025 and a revenue sharing agreement would be with the school itself.

I am just guessing here, but I would suspect Wisconsin tried to re-sign all of its returning players for next year prior to the portal opening (at least the ones it wanted back). That would entail signing an NIL agreement with the collective AND a revenue sharing agreement with the school. And perhaps Wisconsin is trying to draw the line at kids jumping into the portal after they've re-signed because that adds another layer of uncertainty. Again, just guessing here, but that could also explain why Xavier's situation is different from the others who transferred out of Wisconsin (because he was re-signed and perhaps took an upfront payment that he may or may not have returned).

I am in complete agreement with your overall point, which is that none of the above would justify exercising self-help and not entering him into the portal if he has satisfied the requirements for portal entry.

From Badger Extra

The University of Wisconsin football team is in the midst of an off-field battle that could have ramifications for all of college football.
Cornerback Xavier Lucas tweeted Friday that the program was holding up his application to enter the transfer portal. BadgerExtra sources contend that Lucas had a signed deal in place with the program and the Badgers believe Lucas must honor it.

Lucas signed his agreement in December, sources said, after the end of the season and before he returned home to Pompano Beach, Florida. Lucas first tweeted he intended to transfer Dec. 19. Sources said that neither Lucas nor anyone from his camp responded to calls or messages from Wisconsin coaches and staff members for days following Lucas’ initial announcement.

Wisconsin’s student-athlete handbook states that the compliance office will enter a player’s information into the portal within two business days of submitting the paperwork. There have been six business days since Lucas’ announcement, but it isn’t clear when his paperwork was submitted. There is not a bylaw specifically allowing Wisconsin to delay or prevent Lucas’ entry into the portal if he indeed does meet the requirements of transfer and has completed the proper steps to transfer.

The exact nature of the deal Lucas signed and the parties involved weren’t disclosed. Rob Master — the executive chair of The Varsity Collective, which supports Badgers athletes through name, image and likeness payments — said Friday he had no comment. An email sent to Lucas' mother wasn't immediately returned Friday.

Lucas, a former four-star recruit, played in 11 games for the Badgers this fall and tallied 18 tackles, a sack, an interception and two pass breakups. He didn’t appear in the season finale against Minnesota. Lucas split snaps with senior Nyzier Fourqurean at the boundary cornerback spot and played special teams.

So Wisconsin cutting off their nose to spite their face? Taking a 'moral' stand?
Seems logical that the kid may have assured Fickell of his return, signed a new deal and collected funds that otherwise would not be available, then is attempting to bolt. If that's the case, he literally wants to take the money and run. And this possible scenario is presumably perfectly legal in today's NIL era. Understandable that Wisky would be ****ed if that's the case. Seems unjust, but hasn't that been the case when universities and coaches have cashed-in without compensating players for like forever? Shoes on the other foot now, though loopholes apparently need to be closed.
