Xavier Lucas in the portal

For Miami to be at fault in any contract violation they would have to prove the kid wasn't going to transfer and the only reason he transferred is because of Miami. Which is ludicrous, kids are transferring everywhere all the time. This kid likely has informal offers from multiple NILs.

I also don't think NIL deals can be pay to play. So there is really nothing that says they can't still keep him on their NIL if he was with another team.

The damage this will do to Wisconsin's reputation in the form of negative recruiting cant be worth it.
"If you outplay your NIL deal at Wisconsin and become worth millions more than they are paying you, they won't let you get your worth. They will sue anyone who talks to you like they own you."

The ball really is in the kid’s court. He pretty much has until tomorrow to enter the portal. If he doesn’t, then something changed. Wisconsin can’t just stop a kid from entering; no school can. Heck, we could have done it with Horton.

Now I have no idea regarding NIL logistics etc,. but if the kid took cash from the Wisconsin collective (recently, or worked out a new deal that involved a signature) and is now being asked to pay it back because he’s leaving, then there’s more to the story than we see on the surface.

Didn't he already enter, Wisconsin just didn't process the paperwork?

I don’t think he ever officially entered, just announced his intentions to?

Someone can correct me if I’m mistaken. Might have missed out on that part - but if he was already in, then this wouldn’t be a mess of a situation because being in = school filed appropriate paperwork.

He. Has. Tried. To enter. The Portal.

In the sense that he has SUBMITTED THE PAPERWORK. Schools have "up to" two days to process and send to the NCAA.

And you can sit here and say "Wisconsin can't just stop a kid from entering". Yet IT'S HAPPENING. Why do you think he is hiring an attorney?

So it sounds like something that’s going on between him and the collective, not Miami-involved. And for that, it probably has to do with the deal he signed with Wisconsin.

If he’s hiring an attorney, I’m assuming he’s planning on taking legal action having to do with the fact that the school won’t process his paperwork. If it was as simple as Wisconsin not wanting him to leave, then why doesn’t he make a big deal about it publicly?

There’s certainly more to the story than what’s being said here. And to me, that means something contractually between Lucas and Wisconsin, nothing involving Miami.

My best guess is Lucas recently took money, is now leaving, and the collective doesn’t want to pay him or says if you are keeping that money, you have to stay here.

I do agree that the whole wearing #35 on special teams for the punt returns is stupid. The big flapping jersey just looks dumb and has to effect the range of motion. I don't understand why they do that. If there is another 5 on special teams, get them out or make them be the ones to swap jerseys. Having the guy who is responsible for catching the punts do this just seems like us making something harder than it needs to be.

How about Ray Ray actually makes a play before getting that single digit number? Let's normalize that lol

He HAS the single-digit number. But because ANOTHER player also has the same jersey number, he has to wear #35 on punt returns.

When he is playing WR, he wears #5.

This isn't complicated. If only Caneville understood the rules of football.

I understand what's going on with both the #5 and the #35. What I was implying is that coaches promise kids single digit numbers during the recruiting process and we end up with multiple number 1's, 5s, 7s, etc.

If there weren't multiples of the same number we wouldn't need the #35 jersey for PRs

My point was more along the lines of let seniority/performance decide who gets the "cool" numbers and not risk getting flagged on special teams so your 6th string WR can wear the number he wants.

#5 was a defensive lineman (CJ Clark?). Defense is on the field before punt returns, and #5 apparently was on the punt return team, thus the switch.
Lots of duplicate #s because so many want single digits, including DL which was once unheard of. Duplicates will only worsen with the increase in scholarship numbers.
