I'll continue to hope for Jim Leonhard. When I saw us sign Blay and see him line up over the center in a few highlights, I thought there is hope... I don't know what that does for four man-front guys (like Scott?), forgive my football ignorance if I don't know what I'm saying
It's called a 40 G front. Nothing changes that much, its just gap responsibility.
Typically in a 40 strong front its balanced. The 1tech (NT) has weakside A, and is lined up in it, and in the run game in specially the strongside Inside zone run play, they keep the C and Boundary Guard from going to second level.
In a 40 G front, their alignment is in zero technique, i.e., nose to nose with the center.
Now he has to play the OC via two way gapping (i.e., play side and boundary A gaps) while the Mike LB is responsible for the A gaps the NT decides not to.
The Will backer is responsible for the boundary B gap and the 3tech or DT, is lined up in the strongside 3 tech and has the assignment of that B gap, which is exactly the same in a strong 40 front
In a 40 G front, you have a to have a run stuffing Will backer who can mess with the big boys on the LOS.
This has less to do with Blay and more to do with the Will. In a 40 G front, you expect the NT to smash the C a yard behind the LOS, extend arms and sink and watch the backfield and make a play, meanwhile in a typical 1 tech position, he does the dirty work so everyone else gets the play.
