2024 Xavier Lucas 3* CB/S from STA sticks w/Wisconsin

Yeah, I didn’t really believe it. The rumor mill was that there were off-field people that he wanted to get away from. Not issues with the kid himself.
Highly unlikely. Xavier is one of the best kids I've ever coached. (on and off the field) Both parents in the house. 4.0 GPA type student. Doesn't really "hang out". Not a street kid. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe he has some friends that are **** heads that want to ride his coattails. That was a big issue with some of our former local kids who stayed home. (won't say any names)

Hopefully Xavier gets tired of that cold weather and wants to come home next season.

Xavier, OJ, Damari, and the crop coming in…. That would flip the script on that CB room post haste!

Honestly I can never hate on a kid that just wants to go away for school/life. The idea that you’re indebted to your home area in some way is totally delusional. Your area is gonna be fine lol live your life and go where is best for you.

That said, I’m glad So Fla kids feel this obligation and hope they go to UM and kill it and feel fulfilled serving their community. But yeah, I’ve always thought if I had the chance I’d want to go somewhere else. I didn’t have any athletic prospects but in my own life I got out as soon as I could so I can totally understand kids that want something new. They’ve earned it if they want it.

Coach is thinking of coming back home?

Based on the profile Macho gave us about him, highly unlikely. We had our chance. We screwed it up. Good luck to the kid and kudos for staying loyal to the school that believed in him front the start. . Lesson learned on our part hopefully.
We always have to learn a lesson but in places like Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama the state schools can stroll in 1 month before signing day with an offer & OV and the kids somehow never feel slighted. It's an insane double standard only Miami is held to.

Think about it yall…if a freshman comes to Miami and plays early do yall think they will just leave right after the season? Seriously lol

Very randomly and somewhat of a digression, sorry in advance ...
When Mario was hired here, he very promptly offered Jack Pyburn, who was committed to Minnesota at the time. Pyburn visited; we were showing love; he might have committed. UF saw that, offered him, and it was a wrap. Now, he's a good player for them. What I want to know is, what will it take for UM to have that status with kids? Because our defense could use a player like Pyburn.

We probably never will at scale because south Florida kids are largely hired guns, but not sucking for 20 years would be a good start if we’re ever going to. Every school you mentioned that commands strong loyalty is good more often than not, most of them usually in the hunt for titles. It’s not like we’re talking about Michigan State and UCLA.

Probably not, you’re not wrong. But when you talk about long distances from home and, as Macho mentioned, maybe getting his first true taste of that Wisconsin cold changes his opinion. NIL never hurt either.

It’s not about perception. Kids wanted to see Miami win and we have. Each kid is different and Miami is not for everyone. We have stolen our fair share that no one mentions. Lyle, Scott, and Fletcher come to mind.

Madison is a nice quaint college town. It's nothing like Miami. That might be enough in and of itself. ... But if we land the kids we're hoping to land this cycle, I wouldn't be bringing in a second year. I'd find a fourth or fifth year Colbert+ type.

All due respect we get 20-25 commitments every year so I’m sure that scenario plays out in our favor as well. When Mario first got to Miami we landed quite a few players we had no real shot with (granted that 2022 class was a bust)

So I think we just tend to focus on the negative because we hear about those things more

I want this guy to bail as much as anyone but this would be like OJ bailing on us. And Wisconsin is a legit program. This isn’t like Purdue or wazzu we’re talking about.
