Gaby:

With Miami's quarterback situation settled, the Hurricanes remain active in the transfer portal market ahead of the final add/drop day of January 22.

A name emerging on the radar is former Boise State wide receiver Prince Strachan, a 6-foot-5, 212-pounder who caught four passes for 40 yards in the College Football Playoffs against Penn State.
I like the work being done to get bigger on the outside

No thanks. He’s not the type game changer that is take reps from your young pups for.
How do you know? You just assume because a WR has some stars next to his name he’s all of a sudden a future stud at WR for us. The goal is to get as much talent in the room as possible.

I’m not assuming ****. I clearly stated that he isn’t the type of impact player that, I would bring in and have him take reps from the younger guys on the roster. You need to develop your own talent. The guys you recruited. I didn’t say don’t bring anyone in. There is a difference. Not just bringing players in to bring them in. If it’s a proven talented player, go for it. This guys is tall but what else has he done?

That’s operating off the assumption they’re just going to award him snaps without him having to beat pwople out…say what you want but I don’t think there’s any evidence of this staff playing favorites at receiver.

If we're really interested in him, which, with the portal my rule of thumb has become: wait to see if he actually visits, he strikes me as a replacement for Horton. Tall guy who is WR3.

I don't think taking this guy prevents them from trying to get a bona fide #1 type in the spring, nor should it.

If he’s not a guy that is guaranteed to get snaps as a proven player based on his talent/prior production, why bring him to begin with?

Because he’s talented and has size you can’t teach, and competition is what breeds success. This is how college football works now,you constantly add guys and subtract guys based off what is available and let the cream rise to the top. If he’s no good he’ll cycle out in 12 months or less and will have served to push Moore, Daniels, etc. If he is good he brings a veteran element we don’t have in the room right now.

Rumor is someone of higher caliber coming (hopefully) in the spring portal. With no scholarship limit if they like this kid's upside, and want to kick the tires in spring, what's the harm? The profile shouldn't scare anyone on the current roster. On paper, looks like a red zone threat and similar in size to the departed Horton. And who knows, maybe he blocks his *** off, which could be valuable when backs hit the edges/second level. Scared money don't make money (*mindset; and surely he wouldn't break the NIL bank).

Zero need to go after Strachan, that’s a reach.

It needs to be a bonafide WR1 and/or slot guy imo. I’d take two WRs and let them all battle it out. Not scared of the younger guys (or anyone for that matter) transferring - either show up or here’s the door.

You don’t go all in on Beck without a plan at WR, just my two cents.
