Will we ever get new stadium?

The biggest issue is this, first we have to take a step back and remember although we live in Miami and we all on this board love this team, there's thousands and thousands and thousands of people in Miami who really could care less and don't follow this team with a passion so when it comes up to vote on this issue in a public commission or city meeting, there's a lot of people who aren't in the mood to hear about another Stadium being built. In the past 10 years the people of Miami Dade county have been f****ed into raised taxes due to The building of Marlins Park (easily top 5 biggest mistakes in the history of America), and we payed for A LOT of the AAA.

Also, tropical park is the best it's gonna get in terms of available land space and the ability to add parking surrounding a stadium. Being surrounded by red road and miller is huge plus the fact the palmetto gets off right at tropicals entrance basically. the stadium it's self can't be huge, if we're building a stadiumid rather have fewer seats like 40,000-45,000 and always have the full affect of a stadium and the ability to bring in bleachers for bigger games to ADD maybe 10,000-15,000 more people. The smaller the stadium it is the tighter to the field we can make it and the louder and more craziness surrounding the field adding to the intimidation and home field factor (like an eye of a hurricane)

Naming rights alone could go for 40 million plus....it's not as crazy as some people think.

Wait 5-10 years for the marlins to pack up, retrofit that park into a nice, loud, air-conditioned 35,000-40,000 stadium.

If the mods could merge every single "when are we getting our own stadium?" thread into one that gets pinned, that would be great.

Find me a spot in Coral Gables.... there's a big field along Ponce and Granada but doubt that could fit a stadium.

And the residents of Coral Gables wouldn't go down without a fight.

Don't see it happening boys.

That field has plenty of room for a stadium, especially after they knock down that elementary school that is there.

Pretty much the only thing standing in our way of an on campus stadium is the City of Coral Gables.

It's never going to happen.

I am a resident of Coral Gables. Elect me mayor and I'll give you your stadium! If I win the lottery I'm going to start buying up houses near campus!!! I have a dream.

There has been reports that Ross is trying to find funding to upgrade The Tomb. However, he not having any luck. There's no room on campus. However, there is growing interest in Tropical Park near campus. Plenty of room for the stadium, parking and access to two freeways. It's just 3 miles from campus. Imagine a 45-55,000 seat stadium like the one below.

Nice rendering, but I doubt we could ever afford something that expensive....I'd settle for something nicer than what FAU just built in the 100-150 million range. Naming rights + one big donation and halfway there.

No. They need to do something with Sun Life Stadium. Fans don't like it. Now that the marlins are out, they need to put some lipstick on that pig and make it a more football fan friendly place to go watch a game.

And by "they" I mean the Dolphins.

You know by sharing a field with the Dolphins, we don't have to "keep up with it" right? Dolphins will also have a nice stadium, or at least one that will attract a super bowl (thus you see the roof thing they are thinking of).

It may not be on campus or be the loudest stadium, but it works just fine for what we need and win we win, it will be full.

This guy gets it

There is nothing you can do short of tearing it down....even if they add seats closer to the field and lower the playing surface 95% of the seats will still suck. Blame Joe Robbie for wanting to play soccer there...stadium blows.

My uncle is chief of staff for Carlos Gimenez and I've asked him multiple times about this situation. First, where the **** are you gonna put a stadium in Miami other than tropical park. Can't put it anywhere in coral gables because first there's no land, second the city is so obnoxious with their permits and policies and construction rules. Third, no person who lives in coral gales will ever want to have to deal with any sort of traffic on a Saturday from noon till 5 pm.

All that said the only option is really Tropical Park but there is no way UM should ever build a massive stadium.they need nothing bigger than 50,000 seats and that's a lot

Tropical park is really the only viable location. It has what you need as far as access, land, and proximity...I don't really think it's that far fetched. We'd have to work out some kind of land lease, and perhaps float the idea of having the stadium available for high school games. High School football is becoming a bigger business, and the extra revenue from a nice facility, and televising a lot of these games could help to offset some costs for maintenance etc. What this idea needs is some fresh thinking regarding financing, and a viable business plan....and 200 million or so :cigar:

I know all the dead horse guys come in here whinning about "this again", but what's the harm in discussing this. It's what message boards are for. I for one know if I'm ever a billionaire there will be a stadium somewhere.

Ive always said the day I will the mega millions I will make three phone calls... my lawery, my accountant, Donna Shalala to give her a blank check for Nick Saban or a down payment on a new stadium close to campus

Seriously love everyone with the dead horse ****....probably the same fans that had GT winning by 50.

A stadium is possible, you just need to look at it as a financial opportunity and see if the numbers work. If they don't work from a straight finance perspective then you have to look for donations to make up the difference.

Minnesota got 35 million for naming rights in 2008. How many nationally televised games a year do they have? There is really no reason we couldn't get 40 million +. What is the rent we pay at No-life vs what we make per game...what would we make if we controlled all concessions, parking, etc....finally, what initial expense would those cash flows justify. Is that enough to make the stadium, including land acquisition? If not, what's the shortfall?

These are all fairly straightforward questions that I hope the university has looked at. Does anyone know if they have? I sure don't.
