Will Rogers in the Portal

They all also left systems that didn’t fit them for ones that did. Rogers wouldn’t be walking back into a Mike Leach air raid system, which is what best fits his skill set. If you tell me we bring him and move to that I’d love it, but there’s no way in **** that happens.

If we moved to a Mike Leach air raid system, TVD would also thrive.

Point is that with Mario, we have no idea how a QB will do here. Past performance isn't always an indicator of future performance when it comes to transfers due to coaching changes and scheme changes and the roster changes around them.

This is why it’s not a question of “Mario getting the QB right.”

The QB will not matter until the offense system is right. And once that’s right, the QB will matter less. Then you can take average QBs like Nix and Hooker and have success with them.

It’s one in the same. The right qb is the one that fits this scheme the best. I’m not sure this cat is a fit.

There is no QB for what Mario does.

That’s why it’s the same story every year with his offenses. It’s simply not a QB away from making it work.

I‘m talking Dawson if he’s here still. What he did with Tune was impressive beens he wasn’t the most accurate guy. It’s too bad we can’t use what we did yesterday more than previous weeks. It just causes more questions.

we need a QB who is a threat to run. this guy isn't. while i think he could have a nice year here if some stuff breaks right, i'd rather embrace the modern age and get a QB who can run some

Dawson is going to run Mario’s offense.

Picking some random point in Dawson’s career, and saying, “he just needs to the QB to do that again,” is useless. Because we aren’t even trying to do that.

We are trying to do what Mario wants to do.
 
In the end, Rogers is about as good as it’s going to get at QB.

Last year was Hartman and the dude from NC State. Neither is head and shoulders above Rogers.

You can’t pass on many guys in the portal, because there simply aren’t going to be many guys in the portal. That’s the problem with the portal.

I think Mario has his hands on certain points of the offense , It’s more the run game aspect , some formations and the conservative ways of doing business. It’s no secret Mario wants an identity. I mean Mario and Dawson have both all but said it’s give and take.

That said The last two Saturdays looked dramatically different than midseason and more like A&M. Al lot more motion , 11 personnel and using space. With more te’s and rb’s being involved. Was that because of Tyler being asked what he likes and dislikes ? Or an adjustment ? I tend to lean Tvd because I’m pessimistic now lol.

Leary is nowhere near the same guy since the injury. That one looked good on paper , not on grass.

I see your pessimism all over the board over the past couple of days but there’s just **** way Shannon’s offense lit it up for the first 4 games, then TVD was injured for the next 6 when the offense scuffled, and then when TVD is healthy again the offense magically shows up again. There has to be a correlation there.
 
Rogers yards per attempt was 6.9 (his peak), good enough for 114th in the nation.

The season he threw for 4739 yards, he needed 683 attempts - the second most in the nation.

Of the top 50 QBs in passing yards that season, he ranked last in ypa and was the only QB to average fewer than 7.4.

There were also 152 QBs credited with a longer TD pass than his 56 yarder.

Can't blame it all on the air raid either. These were the ypa of Leach's QB his last 6 years at WSU & Rogers at MSU:

I know "stats don't tell the whole story". But when a QB is attempting 1300 passes over two consecutive seasons, we get a pretty good idea of what the QB is.

So just to see it with my own two eyes, I spent the last 3 hours looking at every one of his games.

I'll leave it at this. I don't want a QB with questionable arm strength and below average mobility. Not in Mario's 3rd year. That's how we end with the bro style offense everyone is complaining about.

Better QBs are going to be available.
