Wide reciever separation

The only WR I saw who was struggling to get separation was Dorsett.

I am confident in saying that he won't have that problem again (see 2012).

Look the coaches and players are saying the right things. But these opening games against significantly less comp doesn't get the players full attention. There was no emotion in that game. ****, Denzel or "Danzel" (as the TV announcer called him lol ) didnt even injury anyone. It's good to have great players like Duke who will take it to the house at any time effortlessly in warm up games.

To the OP subject. I'm not worried about if we can get separation. Why...because if Louisville WR can get open against these guys so can we. I dont want to hear about lack of effort. That's an excuse that everyone makes when they get creamed in this bowl game. Florida had been eliminated from the national title chase for over 5 weeks by the time that game took place. So I don't want to hear that "it wasn't for a championship", no one on their current roster has played for a championship.

What I am worried about is Stephen Morris....I see the underneath check downs open all the time and Morris doesn't see them or doesnt want to see them. On the Flea Flicker you saw how dangerous Duke is with just a little bit of space. IF Morris will be content to TAKE WHAT THE DEFENSE gives him. We will be fine. But if Morris decides that he has to throw every ball 10-15 yards down field then we won't be.

This is huge game for our TEs also. They have a very favorable match up against LBs of UiF. And we have enough solid pass catchers to stay on them.

Wide receivers were open.... except for Phillip Dorset b/c he was being doubled by the safety over the top on every play.

Lack of separation is not an issue w/ our receivers

I can almost guarantee that hurns won't get any of those bubble screens or whatever u want o call them against UF. Those plays were decoys to give the Florida DC something else to account for. Coley, Waters, Lewis and Dorsett(to some extent) are better suited for those kinds of plays

I personally like Allen Hurns catching those bubble screens.... he's sure handed and those plays are only meant to get 5-10 yards anyway.

The offense uses those plays like alternate run plays.

Exactly. You want your most sure-handed receiver on those plays, and one with the strength to take a hit and break a tackle.

I saw the underneath check downs open up as well. Morris was trying to make the big play too much vs. a marginally talented team. When a QB plays a team like FAU, he could just let his play-makers do all the work with the underneath passes. Maybe he was forcing it trying to make the big plays to feed the hype that has been building about himthe last couple of months.

Exactly, he even said he was being double all game in his interview yesterday. We won't have that problem vs. Florida because they have more confidence in there DB's. We should have more opportunities because of this.

I'd bet we try at least a couple of the bubbles then have one where somebody slips out the back from the block and goes deep.

SHHHHH

These plays rarely work against disciplined, smart, and talented secondaries. UF is all 3. Roberson, Purifoy, and Hargreaves are the real deal. If we do those screens it should be strictly to set something up downfield. I watched the entire UF game and this defense is a different beast. They are like FSUs last year. That front 7 is no joke. And the secondary is gonna lay and wait for Morris to make a mistake. He has to take what the defense gives him and not try to win the Heisman trophy.

This has always been the knock on Morris. He wants to "Win" the game on his own. Often times I see wheel routes and check-down wide open but he doesn't move his eyes. I don't have a problem with him going deep but he needs to manipulate the safeties with eyes. teams are going to cover us to not give up deep passing plays. If he throws the check downs those guys can't sink as deep opening up the verticle routes passes.

This is college there is not going to be great separation (unless you are playing Pitt. There basically everyone runs free). Morris has to create those windows with accuracy and anticipation.
