Here comes more loser talk.
"Miami can't land every stud!"
No? Ok how about one or two? It's been two cycles now that it appears we'll be striking out looking at CB and failing to sign a bonafide stud. Is that ok to ask for amongst the loser sect of the fan base? Can little old Miami at least land one elite shutdown corner?
This attitude is disgusting.
No, he's right. Schnellenberger used to say almost the exact same thing. He erected the wall that defined the State of Miami, but he also was truthful in saying we could never keep them all at home. I remember when Lorenzo White was quoted as he left the OB at the end of our first NC game that he might reconsider and go to Miami. Well, he ended up going to Michigan State where he led college football in rushing yards. Howard acknowledged that it was not possible to keep every single blue-chip home. He was realistic. Sorry, but it's always been that way sometimes the truth is not pleasant. We can only hope to won as many of the battles as possible. We've never kept every kid home.
EDIT: We are getting studs. Maybe not the two from AH but we're still getting studs (and the AH thing is not over.). And don't think we were built on marquee players. We got a few here and there but the marquee guys were not the core of our great teams. We recruited players with huge upside an a burning desire to work hard, get better all the time and win.
Believe me, I know the history and how our coaches used to think in the'80's. Look at the final 247 from the 247 website, I think it is. Alabama's not just recruiting five stars. They're evaluating well and taking the players that project well for them. Sure, they'll get their share of five stars, but not entirely. Evaluation, good selection, coaching and development will be key to their continuing success.
And We won at least one more NC with the kids from that '84 class and Lorenzo White was not among them. He won the rushing title at MSU but didn't play on a NC team.
