why Miami could make a BCS run *$ article*

Poll rankings are only part of it.
Wait until the BCS rankings come out, and then see where Louisville is ranked.
Louisville's schedule is a joke, as is that former big east conference, and the BCS severely penalizes teams that don't play any teams that are even close to being ranked.

Undefeated season from an AQ conference is a guaranteed lock into the title game unless there is a 2 (or more) other undefeated teams.

Show me a scenario where it wasn't the case.

Show me a scenario where an AQ conference champion played this schedule:

Ohio
Eastern Kentucky
Kentucky
Fiu
Temple
Rutgers
UFC
Usf
Connecticut
Houston
Memphis
Cincinnati

Pollsters are not going to reward a team for that schedule.
If you had a vote, would you?
Objectively speaking, I wouldn't.

Lville is not a part of any conference this year.

That big east conference that signed that deal is no longer in existence.

The ville will absolutely get left out in favor of a 1 loss SEC champ. 100%.

American Athletic Conference is still an AQ conference. They just changed their name from Big East, everything else is still the same.

Without the media touting for us and voting for us, even if luck goes our way, and we go 13-0, we could end up on the outside while 1 loss teams play in the big game.
Can't happen you say? No undefeated team from a BCS conference would ever get squeezed out.
Watch where Louisville plays their bowl game.

There's absolutely no way that a unbeaten team from an AQ conference would be left out of the BCS Title Game over a 1 loss team. It's just not going to happen.

Louisville runs the table the only way they would be held out is if 2 (or more) other teams finished undefeated, they are in an AQ conference and already closing in on a top 5 ranking. They are locked into that game if they go unbeaten and there aren't a bunch of unbeatens with them.

Louisville will definitely be left out over a 1 loss SEC team. An undefeated ACC champ will not as long as us, FSU and Clemson don't start ****ting the bed.

The debate will end up being, does a 1 loss SEC team deserve to be in the championship game?
After watching oregon for 2 games, I don't see them losing. Their only games are Stanford and UCLA, and they should win both of those.
The dilemma is undefeated Oregon, 1 loss Alabama, undefeated Louisville and, if the football gods shine on us, undefeated Miami.
Who goes to Pasadena?
Oregon definitely goes, but who plays them?
I, personally, think a one loss SEC team is more deserving than an undefeated Louisville.

To throw another iron in the fire, what happens if Ohio state goes undefeated?
Their only true test should be their last game against michigan. They also play Wisconsin at home but should handle them.

Whatever happens, I think this is going to be a year where one, maybe two AQ conference champions get hosed.
This year might be the perfect example of why we need next year's playoff.

For us, we just need to take care of business and let the chips fall where they may.

Next game is all that matters.

We know the "one game at a time" mantra, but have envisioned this scenario since spring. Not just dreamt of it with wishful thoughts, but saw our team's physical transformation, listened to everybody remark on the increased communication and scheme knowledge/confidence, recognized that physicality with serious talent and experience makes for a deadly team and lastly saw our schedule and the state of our opponents.

I've been saying 14-0 for months, but since I'm a homer, I'm dismissed as a crackpot.

Articles like this are crucial for us because we need the media to jump on board.
We need them to see us as the SEC alternative because the polls are a big part of BCS rankings.

Louisville doesn't play Florida, Florida state, and Clemson. The best team on their schedule is Rutgers.

Which is why the will go undefeated and not play in Pasadena.

The ACC does not have the best reputation, so we need all the positive press from now until the end.
The polls count, and one of the polls is the AP poll done by sports writers.
We all know the pollsters have an SEC bias. Georgia has a loss and is ranked ahead of us right now.
Logically if Georgia wins out, Oregon wins out, and we win out, who do you think plays in Pasadena?
Oregon and a 1 loss Georgia.
That's my point. We need AP writers to start drinking any kook aid that isn't labeled SEC.

We will pass a one-loss Georgia before midseason. Certainly by the time bowls are selected. And certainly if we beat Clemson in the ACCCG since it was Clemson that handed Georgia a loss.

I've been following the BCS since its inception. I'm 100% positive about this. If we go undefeated, we will be in. We're ranked #15 right now because America isn't sure yet whether to buy the hype. Once we get by UNC, Va Tech, we'll pass Georgia.

Also, the AP is not part of the BCS poll. The coaches poll might be.

Just think about this. A couple years ago, Boise was a field goal away from playing for the MNC, and the hardest team they played was Air Force.

That said, if we drop a game, we can forget about playing for it all... then it WILL go to an SEC team. We have to be perfect.

Except for the complete chaging of teams. The catholic 7 basketball teams and Notre dame left.
Pittsburgh and Syracuse left for the ACC, and they added UFC, Houston, Memphis and smu, with east Carolina, Tulane, Tulsa and navy joining the next couple years.
The conference is a football joke, especially when Louisville leaves after this year.

First team I looked at was 1999 Virginia Tech:

James Madison, UAB, Clemson, Virginia, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Miami (23rd), Temple, Boston College

10 unranked teams and Miami who they slaughtered.

Look at Alabama last year after the late loss to Texas A&m. What did they drop to? #2?
Going to be a clusterfuuck, especially if Ohio state cruises through a relatively easy schedule.

That's because there wasn't any other undefeated team, and Alabama was clearly the best team in the country.

If we go undefeated, we are in. ESPECIALLY in a year we beat UF and FSU. There is just no chance we get screwed by the BCS if that happens.

Even if Oregon, OSU, and Miami go undefeated (which I doubt happens).... OSU will be the odd man out because we play a tougher schedule. In fact, in that scenario, Miami enters the game ranked #1.

You are neglecting the fact that the ACC is low on the totem pole of national respect when it comes to football conferences.
I forgot that the BCS simplified its rankings and that it all comes down to polls.
Harris interactive poll, coach's poll then, the computer rankings are then computed using the averages of the polls with high and low rankings thrown out.

This is why positive media coverage is important.
In the Midwest and the west Miami is not even a blip on a map, while one loss SEC teams still keep their foot in the door this early in the season.
Right now there are 2 one loss SEC teams ahead of us in the coach's poll where we are ranked 18th.

However this works out, it's going to be an interesting season.
Very possible that there are 4 undefeated teams going into the bowls, and not one of them being an SEC team.
You know those rednecks are going to scream bloody murder if they don't make it to Pasadena. All the best conference bullshiit being touted.

We just need to hold up our end.

I've seen an undefeated Auburn get shafted by the BCS selection committee in favor of two sexier teams. The SEC is not always going to be in the championship game and this might be one of those years where it isn't.

But before that happens, someone has to beat Alabama. On paper, that is a phenomenal team, so let's just see how it all plays out.

By the way, at the start of every season, there are always 3 or 4 teams who people think might go undefeated.... then something happens. Teams lose. OSU could lose to Michigan. They could lose some conference game where they're caught sleeping. Oregon could lose to Stanford, to USC, to any number of teams. This is usually what happens. It's not easy to win every game on your schedule.

Article is pretty logical.
Taking into account this team just beat UF and has looked markedly different than the last few years there is no reason why we shouldn't beat our remaining home games and most of our road games with FSU and VT being the remaining games that will be our toughest challenge.

Virginia Tech is a home game.

We travel to South Florida, UNC, Florida State, Duke and Pittsburgh.

Clemson or FSU v Miami will be great advertisement for the ACC. Its important for getting recruits and money etc. I just hope we can fix the offense, and enjoy the season. Definately leaving work and going to Savannah St game

Never is easy to win out, which is why I think you always need some luck.
Also, never liked having polls so early.
Always thought the first poll should come out after week 4, and then work from there.
But it's a multimedia world, and we relish the debate.
I'd be the first to admit that.
Nice to see an actual debate on a canesinsight thread instead of an argument.
Guess all the kiddies are still in class.

As much as I'd love to talk about having an undefeated season, we have a whole lot of improvement we need to make in our play. Yes we are 2-0, but we still have a lot of growth and execution to make. The defense has been impressive, lets hope that continues to trend in the right direction and that the offense and special teams start clicking.
