For sure.
Both Washington and Ben Jones could've been really good OL if we had a solid coaching staff at the time. But we didn't.
The good news is that there are really good OL coming out of south Florida in every class now and we seem to be doing well with our OL recruiting.
Vernon was the #1 OL back then and now his son is the #1 basketball recruit. The genes are strong in that family.
Yes! Lumelski!Max jean, freeman brown, Ricky Perry, zev lumelski
LolI guess Leon Searcy doesn't count since he was from Orlando. And he was a converted DL, and a but of a sleeper since he didn't even play football until his senior year in HS. So in that case, I think Vernon would be my pick too.
He's the one I would pick who was the best prospect who also had a great college and pro career.
Also need to throw in Lomas Brown as a possibility for GOAT prospect. Larry Little, too. But that was from an era where the concept of "prospect" was a big vague.
Biggest disappointment (bust) would have to be Freeman Brown (RIP). Kid was massive, had amazing feet and natural power. Just couldn't put it together.
Yes Hutchinson went to Coral Springs High. then Michigan. Then an All-Pro guard for the VikingsHutchinson went to Coral Springs, I think.
None of the big 3 offered him.
Quite a pick-up for Michigan. But Michigan has been a big-time OL school for half a century, anyway.
You sure none of Big Three offered him? Was he the guy whose mother was an artist? I remember some white offensive lineman, I thought from maybe Southridge in the '80's, I think, and went to Michigan. I was disappointed we didn't get him. Michigan was known, I think, for having good OLs.Yes Hutchinson went to Coral Springs High. then Michigan. Then an All-Pro guard for the Vikings
Yes, I'm right, at least according to Wikipedia. Everitt went to Southridge, according to that source. I remember him and never heard any stories about whether we were recruiting him. Some white guys wanted to go elsewhere to be honest about it. I can't believe the Big Three did not want Everitt. He was no sleeper. You sure none of Big Three offered him? My recollection is everyone wanted Everitt. He just went to Michigan which was cranking out lineman back then.Yes, I'm right, at least according to Wikipedia. Max was from my high school (NMB) so I gotta give him some props.
Vernon Carey.
