Who was/is the best OL prospect in Dade County history?

Vernon Carey.

I guess Leon Searcy doesn't count since he was from Orlando. And he was a converted DL, and a but of a sleeper since he didn't even play football until his senior year in HS. So in that case, I think Vernon would be my pick too.

He's the one I would pick who was the best prospect who also had a great college and pro career.

Also need to throw in Lomas Brown as a possibility for GOAT prospect. Larry Little, too. But that was from an era where the concept of "prospect" was a big vague.

Biggest disappointment (bust) would have to be Freeman Brown (RIP). Kid was massive, had amazing feet and natural power. Just couldn't put it together.

I think before Vernon, Rudy Barber was probably the most decorated prep OL in Dade history. 5 star kind of kid. Played on awesome CCHS teams.

Ricky Perry was a better prospect than Freeman (RIP), IIRC.

Steve Everitt was also another one.

Where did Brandon Washington fall in this category? He was another guy that should have stayed one more year.

Steve Hutchinson from Southridge, I believe, was **** good.
Went on to Michigan and the Raiders.

Max was from my high school (NMB) so I gotta give him some props. But the kids from CC, NW, and Central have put out some really good linemen in the past.
We need to wait a year to see what Seymour, Denis, and Lucas do.

Here are the top OL from each of those 3 schools listed on the pro-football-reference website...

CC - William Roberts spent 14 quality yrs in the NFL
Central - Bruce Armstrong was an All Pro for the Pats in the 1990s
NW - Big Vern

Vernon Carey #1 hands down.

Chris Meyers & Joaquin Gonzalez are on the list as well. If we include more than just Dade, Stege Hutchinson & Brandon Linder are definitely at the top.

The biggest disappointment was probably Carlos Joseph.

For sure.

Both Washington and Ben Jones could've been really good OL if we had a solid coaching staff at the time. But we didn't.

The good news is that there are really good OL coming out of south Florida in every class now and we seem to be doing well with our OL recruiting.

Hutchinson went to Coral Springs, I think.

None of the big 3 offered him.

Quite a pick-up for Michigan. But Michigan has been a big-time OL school for half a century, anyway.

I'd put Searcy in the starting 5 of all-time Miami OL.

He was a good one - at Miami and with the Steelers.
