Who says that there will be 2 more rides? Probation related scholarship reductions may cap the class regardless.

I'd be shocked if any scholarship reductions are involved with this class, even if the sanctions come down before signing day they would likely be for next season and beyond.

That said, to get the 16-18 that's expected there was going to be attrition needed, so no one really "gets" the open scholarships.

without attrition, we can only take 16 even with the 3 players leaving the team this year. I agree its likely for transfers to happen at the end of the season, we just won't know the true number until then. Not to mention NCAA scholarship reductions

This is true for the 2013 season, i.e. we can only have 80 ships total or whatever due to sanctions.

There is still some dead weight too

Corey White (put him on IR), who knows if Eduardo or Crawford will transfer.

Right now I think we're at 79 scholarships (after Cain) with 11 Seniors. 68 Spots going into next year before 2013 arrives.

Guys, don't be surprised if UM self-imposes reductions for the 2013 class. The #1 goal is to put this behind us ASAP and build back up. NOT having thr 2013 class absorb some reductions would be somewhat catastrophic as it would just prolong us playing with a hand behind our backs for another year. The U wants to pay the price ASAP. Its why its so important for us to get 6 wins and be able to drop the bowl. If we could somehow win the Coastal and drop the ACCCG too, it could go a long, long way towards getting our spanking done sooner, without affecting recruiting.

You don't have to win 6 and then drop the bowl. You can do it now and be fine.

I doubt we self impose a second game, I believe we would be the first school to ever do that.

If we beat VT, Duke and UVA...or somehow get a chance to get to the ACC Champ, I wouldn't entertain this self imposed postseason ban at all.

Golden to copy USC and load this team with as many young studs as possible. Get rid of the dead wieght and go grab all the young studs, and in 2-3 years we will be fine.

the scholarships we are going to lose has nothing to do this this class, pretty sure it hits next recuriting cycle like Pete said, also f Ramon Buchanan stays that would cover another scholarship

Is it possible that if we self impose this year that would be our last post season ban...I mean Ohio state and USC each got two...p state got 4 which I see no chance we will get...do you guys think two is enough and well be good for 2013 or is the NCAA gonna want to give us more...of course theres the whole scholarship reductions and probation **** but I think the main thing is really the post season bans...

No, no.. the whole goal is to try to mitigate scholarship losses... you are trying to drop as many post-season games voluntarily in advance so that when the NCAA finally DOES drop the hammer, you've already self-imposed a lot on yourself, which may lead them to only penalize you a few scholarships.

Scholarships are everything.

I don't understand how we would lose scholarships for the 2013 class if they havent made a ruling yet and apparently won't do so until after the season.

Also, why could we only take 16? I do not believe that is true. I believe we are limited to the number of early enrollees we can take, but we should be able to fit 25 kids into this recruiting class with our current roster size. Not counting the inevitable transfer/ cleansing of several more guys at the end of the year.

Question again becomes, who are we taking?

We have 11 committs and several guys on the big board. Who else are we offering? Debo? Moore?

While I agree. This is the NCAA not the Florida Penal Code. Does the NCAA allow you to plea bargain or negotiate punishment? We did the bowl ban in year one as a sign of good faith, I don't believe giving another one allows you to have less scholarships given up.

What do I know though?

Maybe the NCAA has a scale

X Scholarships Loss = Y Years of Bowl Ban

Z Years of Probation = W in Fines

I don't know honestly but if somehow we win and have the opportunity to get to the ACC Champ game, I think we should go.
