Who are you most excited to watch make their Cane debut?

"Quan" is not built yet to deal with 300 pound lineman with decent speed and hands yet. Give the kid a year

I'd say Gilbert followed by Figatron....would say Bond if he got in (damnit!)

All my words, already spoken. Save Figs o'er Gilby.

Definitely Gilbert. I want to see this guy healthy and crushing people.

As for AQM, I know he is a stud, BUT I wish we could afford to redshirt his guy and let him add some lower half bulk. Anyone see Mr. Nkemdiche play last night? He looked average at best most of the night. He was being gobbled up by Vandy's big LT. I hate when a kid like this gets all this hype...then he comes in as an undersized true frosh at a position that requires maturity, size, and strength, and he doesn't live up to our fans' unreasonable expectations. He will be a stud, but its gonna take some time.

We will see how AQM does in the game and whether the college game is too big for him.
The coaches say he's going to be used in obvious passing downs as a rusher, so the whole engage, react but make sure the edge is sealed thing they have Chick and Green doing, wont be Quan's duties.
His job this year seems to be get to the qb.

Remember, the coaches didn't just make this decision on a whim. They've studied the practices. Which is something we fans haven't been able to do. They've seen this guy rushing against Flowers, Seantrel, Bunche.
Do you think Quan will face better tackles this year then the ones he faces in practice?
I heard one of the o linemen, probably Seantrel, say that when they want to practice trying to block NFL type speed rushers they use Quan.

He is 235lbs and a freshman. Gilbert is a 5th year senior and 245-250. Gilbert is a slightly above average college defensive end.
Would you rather have a guy with elite burst off the edge and exceptional technique or an above average rush end?.

Gilbert was an All-B1G D-Lineman while playing injured. He is a bit better than slightly above average IF he is completely healthy.

I also do agree with you on AQM...dude is a beast, but its just practice. And alot of guys say alot of things in the preseason...always talking up other players. I mostly worry about him underperforming and the fans souring on him...kind of like McCord last year. We gon do big things for sure Buddha!!

Considering I think that we'll be up by 20+ at halftime, I hope to see The ChOsen One in the second half and would like to see what Gilbert/Kamalu can do for the D-Line.

I hope your talking about AQM being undersized and not Nkemdiche? Cause he's completely filled out, almost to the point where he possibly ends up playing DT for Ole ****

Yes...AQM. As for Nkemdiche...he looks the part, but still has to make some gains from a strength and technique standpoint. He showed a few flashes, but for the most part he was innefective in the 1st half. I passed out and missed he 2nd half though.

Coley because he can be an instant difference maker who can put points on the board from anywhere. Those guys are pretty rare and win games for you. See Duke last year. It'll be fun to see how much AQM can help the biggest need on the team--our anemic pass rush.

Gilbert or Kamalu. These are two guys that are much more important to our season than any of the freshmen. I want to see if Gilbert is really healthy or if his foot is still a problem. Kamalu is interesting cause we get him for two years and he desperately need an impact player at DE.

You nailed it for me.

Do we get Kamalu for 3?

Apples to oranges as far as RN & AQM are concerned.. RN has been asked to play 50 snaps a game regardless of the situation. AQM will see around 10-15 snaps MAX in situations where he can excel in. I agree witht the rest of your statement.. Fans are just dumb.

I think Gilbert was honorable mention All Big 10(or whatever it's called now)
He's going to help us, because he won't hurt us. That sounds simplistic, but in watching Gilbert's Wisonsin tape he's a mature, smart hardworking blue collar type of player. Looks like Wisonsin played the same read and react, seal the edge, assignment critical style of defense we tried to play last year.
But let's not expect Gilbert to come in here and be Danny Stubbs. Gilbert doesn't have that ceiling.
Quan, on the other hand, does.
He hasn't played a game yet. But I'd say his defensive end ceiling is as high as Stacy Coley's wide receiver ceiling and leave it at that.

If I were an Ole Miss fan, I'd be ecstatic with Nkemdiche's debut last night.
Physically he looks like Mario Williams. Was he dominant on every single play? Of course not, but who is?
Barring injury that kid is going to be the best d lineman in college football in the next couple years.
He just needs time to figure out what he's doing.
Kind of like all freshmen.

I like AQM's pass rush game a lot more than Kimchee's. Kimchee looks more like a LT prospect than a DE. He looks too heavy and doesn't appear quick twitch enough to be a great pass rusher. On top of that, Old **** asks him.to play too much as a true freshmans.

I agree with that. Nkemdiche doesn't show the explosion to be a great pass rusher. Looks like he will be a very good strongside DE in a couple of years though. I just hope that you see AQM's quick twitch game show up on our TV screens tonight...or more importantly next Saturday. If it doesn't...I hope our fans don't overreact.

I'm interested to see what AQM can do when a big boy tackle gets his hands on him...will his technique and strength be enough to free him up?

Did someone say Kimchee? Reflexively as a Korean I just had to respond

But seriously, that kid played well inside, I thought. Hung in there very tough at the most physically grueling position( ****, even showed more stamina than Clowney)...

Agree with all of this.. Sadly most fans are clueless though. (especially about the bold part)

I'm really excited about Gilbert because if he stays healthy he should give our line a jolt but he was an honorable mention for the all BIG team, not on the actual team. That is basically a shout out that you almost made it. Quan will be big for us this year in a situational role. Even as a freshman his skills are still better than anybody we got. McCord did some damage for us last year and as good as that kid could end up, he is not Quan.
