Who are the 5 best players on this defense right now?

Okay, everyone basically has maybe 7 guys that are in a rotation of the top 5. Now everyone notice how many are sophs or freshman and only know one thing coach D's defense. The guys that are playing well are guys that AG brought in and are buying into the system. I am surprised we have not seen any love for Olsen Pierre he has made a few plays. And yeah McGee is playing well, whether we like it or not. Kid has been pretty good in coverage and in run support. Just a thought guys....

Chickillo has got to be in everybody's top 5. Seems like he's falling into the Colin McCarthy/Kenny Phillips mode. The fans see a defense that isn't performing and lash out at whoever is getting hype."

My list:

1) Denzel Perryman- One of the best linebackers in the country.
2) Anthony Chickillo- He will disappoint those who expect an elite pass rusher, but a very good all-around football player.
3) Brandon McGee- Can't believe it either, but he's tackling and covering at a high level.
4) Thomas Finnie- Love what he brings to the personality of the defense. Tough, fast player.
5) Eddie Johnson- Still not mentally ready to be a consistent star, but his physical gifts and motor earn him a spot.

This is my list as well.

THIS.

Chick is a Good DE.. He's never going to be an edge rusher but he's a prototypical Strongside DE. And he's only going to get bigger, stronger, and faster. Some of you guys need to realize he's also only a sophmore.

That's the point I was trying to make.

I agreee with this post, but isn't Chick supposed to be an elite pass rusher? Or is it the scheme he is in now?

Chickillo was never a elite pass rusher and I don't know how our fans got that perception.

Perryman and Eddie Johnson ought to be 1 and 2, IMO. And personally, I think Eddie is going to be a star and the better of the two. His upside is much higher than Perryman. Perryman is 5'10", maybe 5'11". EJ is a legit 6'2", 6'3", built and can run and hit. Love his aggression and physicality.

In remember someone saying it, but it could have just been a fan not a recruiting expert.

I think the perception was given due to 2 things. 1) He outperformed Clowney at the UnderArmour event and Clowney is an elite pass rusher at DE and 2) He had good numbers last year.

Personally, I think Chick is a high-motor, high effort guy, but he isn't an "elite pass rusher" because he doesn't have outstanding athleticism. Clowney on the other hand ...

What game were you watching last week? EJ and Perryman were the only two guys playing aggressively.

I agree, but to say EJ will be better than Perryman based off of 2 nice quarters is jumping the gun a bit

that's a common affliction around here.

I clearly stated Perryman is #1, so far. However, EJ has the potential to be a star, IMO. I've seen both kids w/o pads. Physically, this kid has much more potential than Perryman. Not sure what is so wild about my opinion.
