What formulas, what expectations from certain players, what just anything would it take to become the 1st FBS college football playoffs championship? For the sake of argument
Me personally don't count it out a bit even though we will be a much better team in the coming years, we're a pretty good team right now. We have a lot of weapons on the offensive side of the ball with plenty of depth in the skilled positions along with a pretty strong offensive line. I would say depending on the coaching/play calling this year that its not too much the offense can do to ***** up.
When you look at us defensively we are pretty strong at the safety position with the depth and talent that we have there. We took a blow to the depth of the linebacker position days ago but I believe we still have a few guys with just enough talent and hopefully the hunger to not only extend their playing careers, but also possibly win a title. I'm sure they would like to just make up for the embarrassment of a defensive unit they were last season compared to some the past great units. The D-Line has improved and seem ready to show glimpses of the future with some new faces that seem ready to play.
Special teams play seems like it has the possibilities of returning back to the former days in the return game with more talent and hopefully taking Duke away from the return game. I don't know if it was just me or if anyone else agree but I felt like having Duke return both punts and kickoffs then have his number called 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down was just too much. He was exhausted after the 2nd down therefore couldn't give his best effort for 3rd. Which is why we had a lot of 3 and outs last season. Like I mentioned that shouldn't be the case this season with some nice options to pick from at the KR PR position. We will also have help for Duke when he gets tired offensively in the backfield.
Overall I think we have a good chance of doing something big this year as a team that will shock a lot of people if everything falls into place. The coaching staff will need to begin to believe and stop telling players and the media we're not quite there yet. I'm sure that wont make the players feel like they really have a chance when it comes to playing against quality opponents towards the stretch. Honestly there is really no one on the schedule this year to really worry about but Louisville obviously because we owe them one and Florida State. Every other team on the schedule if they were to beat us, their fans would storm the field as if they won the championship, letting you know that they weren't supposed to win. The Florida State game is a rivalry game that is being played at home in south Florida, which means anything can happen. Then we would have to turn back around and play them again the ACC championship neutral site with confidence from the regular season game. Confidence that can carry on through the playoffs.
What do you think would need to happen for this year to be the year? Not asking for you'll to judge my wishful thinking although feel free to speak on but I'm more interested in hearing what you all think would need to happen. Plus just ready for football season to start already.
