What Needs to Happen to Consider the Season Successful?

To call it a success? We AT LEAST have to win the ACC.

The Orange Bowl victory would be icing on the cake. That would be a great season (obviously). And therefore a success.

With a senior QB who is very very talented, a mature OL, solid WR, decent TE, UNREAL RB, and the defense we have... we have the potential to win the ACC. That being said, in order for this to be a successful season, this team needs to come together and do what they can do- which is win in charlotte.

If an 11-1 Clemson plays us at say 10-2 in the ACCCG what do you think are the chances the loser gets an at large bid?

Well based on expectations set by the ACC media, it's coastal or bust. And to win the coastal we'll need to be at worst 6-2 in conference play + 3 OOC wins (FAU, Savannah, USF)
we're looking anywhere from 9-3 or 10-2 regular season record with an ACC Champ game appearance. Anything after that would be gravy.
Personally I think this team is good for ACC Champ BCS bowl type season.

I have two possible metrics for the 2013 Canes:

* win 7 games and beat uf.

--OR--

* win 9+ games and win the coastal division.

Was having this argument with some friends. I said to make the Orange Bowl would mean the season is successful. My friend said that he thought that was too high and just to win a bowl game, which I think is too low. What are your opinions?

For this to be a truly successful season the season would end with me cheering the Canes to victory down the street in Pasadena.

Show significant improvement from last year.

I agree with that, except it's not measurable. I expect at least 9 wins, win the Coastal, and get the D down to around 50th or better. Win some games comfortably enough to allow our backups to get meaningful reps.

10 wins.

Winning the Coastal is a must.

And a good D. **** an "improved" defense. It's **** near impossible not to improve over last season.

we need to win at least nine games, play in and hopefully win the ACC championship game, and win a bowl game preferably the Orange Bowl

we need to either thrash FSU or UF and maybe one lose to the field of other teams with a maximum of two losses. the d has to improve to atleast top 48. the bowl game is a toss up

11 wins. Assuming we play 14 games, the schedule isn't rlly anything too difficult. We could win 10 games but lose to florida, fsu, clemson in the acccg and then our non BCS bowl game. I'd have a tough time calling tht successful. We need to either beat one of the big 3 or win the acc in order to show ppl were back.

Losing in acc championship would be an okay season IMHO. I think to be successful, we either have to win the state or win the acc.

Fewer penalties thus a more, methodical, disciplined squad; fewer drops, an OL that can blow opponents off the line when they have to. A DL and LB group that is more physical and can tackle like men and not scared pussies. An improved, physical secondary.

9-3 is ok as long as we dont get blown out of any games. Not enough depth to expect world beaters. 2 more years before this is a complete team
