What is going on?

I still think we get a nice pickup this Week
Assuming we miss on the second Jackson, what would a nice pickup be? Jones obviously would be but he's all over the place with commitment date, maybe flipping McCoy (think I read he's OVing in season so seems unlikely to happen this week but maybe), Ty Hylton (meh)... maybe Jojo, Patterson, or Ahfua? Just thinking out-loud here to myself lol

They’ve never over paid right up to this very second. Last year we had the whole new coach vibe going then face planted. I’ve been clear since the NIL started we were a tier two program with spending and will not over pay. Good or bad , that’s the deal. Kids need to see the program perform on Saturdays for the sick tax to disappear. Other schools have stepped their games up and there’s still the whole “tax free“ way of doing things that’ll always be hard to beat.
I get not wanting to overpay on the surface of things. The thing I don't get is the misreads or miscalculations on where we actually stand when were up against say, Bama, LSU, OSU, Clemson, OU, UGA. When you are head to head against those big dogs, knowing their performance outputs on the field and in the draft, do the coaches reasonably think "matching" offers is going to get those battles won at a high close rate? I'm not saying you won't have some success, i.e. Lightfoot, James Williams, etc., but to not at least have the mindset of "Well we may have to come over the top on these guys if we want to close this" then they are really betting on themselves in a big way that the season is going to play out for them and pay dividends. And honestly, it wouldn't shock me if one season of better results is enough to not have to pay the "suck tax" and then some. JMO.

It’ll have to be someone that pops without warning (as of now), unless we come out of nowhere for Odom on Saturday.

Imo I don’t think we’ll do that. At least we haven’t up to now.
Not sure if you are at liberty to discuss, but ultimately who makes the call on when to overpay vs not? Is it strictly Mario? If it is and he is just refusing to play ball, then I don't think we're in great hands here. You do what you have to to get your players, pay the suck tax if you have to. Once you get your players, you put a better product on the field and once you put the product on the field maybe the suck tax goes away.

Honestly asking, how does anyone have any idea of what we are spending at any one time or in general? I'm assuming our coaches are smart enough to understand this.

Are you asking in reference to other schools knowing our offers or Vice versa? If so, recruits do it as a negotiating tactic. For example, Barney was given a number by Nebraska, we didn’t want to match it.

Very simple: Win some games, put asses in the stands & make the program relevant in today's game. NIL money & all the words won't get it done.

You've got your order all wrong. NIL leads to good recruiting. Good recruiting leads to winning. Winning leads to asses in the stands.

You're not going to win without the players, and you're not going to get people to show up in Miami when you aren't winning. So talent aquisition has to be step #1.

People want to act like we didn’t hire Mario for talent acquisition. We always knew winning would be secondary to that. If we wanted winning over recruiting, we would have gone Lane…

Except he’s quickly finding out Miami is an exception to the rule considering how long we’ve sucked... which is a huge problem. This season is the most important one in the last twenty plus years. Falter in ‘23, and he doesn’t have jack to sell on the trail.
