What’s your biggest concern with this team?

The game stunk.

We were supposed to beat our most hated rivals by 40+ points. We played a 1-6 FSU team like they were a legit ACC contender & it's all because we have some stupid quota that we're trying to fulfill to give a certain someone their pound of flesh.

It was the worst game we've played this season because it was the only game we've played where we didn't outright try to kill our opponent & we were supposed to.

But it's the exact kinda game that our fans love. Boring, low scoring, jam-packed with Field goals.

Against a better team, that gameplan is not gonna work.
I'm confused, what quota were why trying to fulfill, and who is getting their pound of flesh?

OP is correct, obv. But, our run defense. We've given up way too many explosives in the run game. If a team is able to execute the FSU defensive game plan against us, while holding the ball and controlling the clock with a consistent, successful run game that would put us in a spot I'd rather not see us in.

Transitive property means nothing in CFB.

Were either of those teams dead last in the ACC, with 2 backup QB's starting?
You keep bringing up backup quarterbacks like that was just announced at kickoff. The 21 point spread took that into consideration. I guess the defense could have probably held them to fewer points but I was okay with the coaches emptying the bench late in the game.

Our offense scored more points against FSU than any other offense they’ve faced this season. Maybe they could have went for the touchdown at the end of the first half instead of kicking the field goal but I’m also okay with taking three when your opponent can’t score.

Question: is FSUs defense that bad? We scored 36 and SMU scored 42 (1 TD was a pick 6). Outside of that, their defense has given up 24, 28, 20, 9, 29 and 23.
No their defense really isnt that bad. I relate it somewhat back to our '18 season maybe? The one where the defense was really flippin good aand it seemed like we couldnt get past a 3 and out. It was the year feagles was our punter and our D was giving up lots of points and that was because they were playing a ton of snaps and usually the opposing offense had great field position. Only so much you can do.

With FSU I think it is the same. Now I dont think a lot of the defense is motivated so that makes them worse then they are but when you can complete a forward pass and are always playing from behind it makes life for a defensive player hard. They are legit dead last in offense and the fact there are no more blowouts is the only thing surprising.

I'll be called a secret NOle for this, but was impressed with their defense overall. Credit their scheme, dline play and dbs' coverage. They held up their end of the bargain and TG we can force the pick your poison.

I'll go as far to say they completely shut down Cam and our WRs as a filthy casual fan. It's a blueprint our remainders can try and hope that our inside runs don't work as well.

Bookit that Manny tries to 100% mimic it this week.

Dawson has to earn it with some adjustments to TEs and RBs as others are pointing out and Mirabal needs to get in Carpenter's booty. MF gets a pass, kinda.

I wanna keep loving me some Guidry, but his drinking is getting outta cobtrol again. The children are scared.

Their defense is infinitely better than their offense. They have NFL players on their defense, even if they've underperformed based off expectation in the preseason and mailed it in at times. You knew we were getting their best effort in this game. So, it's not great. Their backers are not good, and their safety play isn't what it should be at fsu either. But they have several players in the two-deep that will play in the NFL. Multiple. On offense, I don't think they have a single one. Legitimately, unless someone like Luke develops into an NFL pick. They are so, so, so, so bad on that side. Genuinely awful with zero talent whatsoever. It's almost impressive how badly Norvell has failed to set them up for any modicum of success on that side of the ball.

So, I expected more by the offense. It clearly was our worst game of the year. But we got the ball 8 times and scored 7 times. Would 4 TDs and 3 FGs be enough to beat someone like Oregon or Taint etc. with our defense? Probably not. But it's WAY more than enough to handle those talentless frauds at fsu.

Time of possession isn't some end all stat, but it tells a big story for fsu. Their offense cripples the entire team. Not just that they can't score, so they lose. That's obvious. They can't even sustain drives, so the defense gets completely overwhelmed. They are 125th in the country in time of possession. They are 131st in 3rd down conversion rate. So their defense has to face 70+ plays every single week because the offense gets the ball and immediately gives it back to the other team, whether it's by punt or turnover. They never sustain drives and score points.

FSU has as much NFL talent on their defense as we'll see all year, including Clemson, were we to get them in Charlotte. TBD on a possible playoff opponent.

I don’t think it was about our gameplan. It was about the way FSU played us. They dared us to run by playing two safeties deep. We took that dare and bludgeoned them.

Personally, I think they were playing to not give up 50. They had no chance of winning.
I certainly agree. That came out wrong in my post. FSU played us the exact opposite of the way teams played us at the beginning of the year. The noles played 2 deep safeties with their CBs in tight press man coverage and their DEs pinned their ears back from the start of the game. They disrupted our passing game and got themselves a couple of sacks. We just yawned at proceeded to treat them like Claire Castel and pound them mercilessly right up the middle.

Let’s be honest…..this secondary won’t be fixed from now until the end of the year but for the love of God I don’t want to see Harris Richard and Hill anymore. Those 3 need to find new homes after this year.

Watching FSU's Xs & Noles and their commentators felt life they had their souls ripped out of them. They commented on high the safeties were playing, noting that FSU feared the deep ball and did not want to allow quick scores. Also commented how our OL was burying their Backers who had no safety help, which is not how their defense plays. They complained how low energy the defense was playing with.

We average 12 drives a game and only had 8, scoring on 7. Dawson took what the defense gave them... 6 in the box you run. He was hoping they would creep up and they didn't. 4 more drives and we could have put up 50.

FSU didn't want to be blown out. So we pounded them.

I'm not seeing as much production from our stable of TE as earlier in the season.
I'm not. We have them, and they are there when we need them. You take what the D gives, and right now they aren't giving the TEs much. Someone will, and they will pay.

Have you seen any data or noticed any trends with the offense vs man or zone defense?

I'm disappointed with the lack of turnovers and negative plays on defense. We're just not as talented on that side unfortunately.
