Whale Watch 2024: The Miami Whale DL Scorecard

Artavious Jones just said on a space that he just started playing football last year. This beast is gonna dominate man
@gogeta4 has him comped to Jalen Carter. That maybe too rich for my blood but the kid looks every bit as good on tape as Breland to me.

Not gonna lie, was ****ed about Jayden Jackson miss - especially after the Scott whiff. Because of our #'s and expectation for the class, panic began setting in. Do have to admit though, was concerned about Jackson's size (pause) - did I do that right?😂.
But Jones by far imo has the higher ceiling and better athletic & measurables profile. Thrilled.

Unsure how NIL factored in both these cases, but I'd imagine the athleticism, measurables and ceiling played a big factor. I totally get not overpaying for average-slightly above average prospects, but it takes balls to stand in principle when there's a need on the roster AND no guarantee that whales will come onboard. Love this commitment, and much respect to the decision makers.

Mario fighting back!
I don’t think he was ever not fighting. Some things like distance from home and NIL are a lot more beyond his control. Some things are just apples to apples misses and that’s part of it.

Looking at the remaining whales on the chart, I’m looking right at Franklin, Breland and Stewart and hoping our NIL game is up for that. We can still have an unbelievably great DL class.

Not mine. I haven’t seen a DT this athletic on tape in this class. This guy is lining up everywhere. Almost reminds me of (SAPP) who came in as a TE. This guy is playing that position as well. He was truly in my TOP 3 DT’s this class. A MUST GET to be exact.

I have him as a top 3 DT. Breland/Scott / Jones are the dudes I consider the cream of the crop regardless of stars.

He looks great but you gotta consider he is playing against weaker comp as well. That’s not to say I don’t love the pickup just sayin.

Thats fair, but that has nothing to do with his athletic ability. Now will be have to get stronger? Yes, but what he’s doing as a natural athlete cant be taught.

He already country strong. Over 400 lbs on the bench. 600+ on the squats
Kid is just entering his senior year of HS, 280 pounds, with excellent power lift numbers and exceptional athleticism / agility period let alone for a kid his size. He is going to be a real problem for OL to try and slow down let alone stop.
