Welcome to the U? (Ray Lewis III)

i like how some fans act like this is a bad move. Are u freaking kidding me!

you think ray being around for 4 years is a bad thing. It will be huge for recruiting and motivation. Have you watched how he pushes his son to be great. I dont care if his son rides the bench all four years. Having ray lewis around all the time is worth a scholly. Imagine him giving speeches before ever game or once a week. What a great way to pump up these kids.

Give me ten of ray lewis sons over the crap that shannon recruited.

You guys are crazy comparing ray Lewis's kid to Jared Campbell.

Ray. Lewis.

Far and away the most admired, respected player to this generation. Taking his kid makes business sense.

So what? Ray Lewis has us by the balls and if we don't give his son a football scholarship he is never going to visit?

Business sense is getting the best 85 players on a team that you can. There are 15+ better RB's in Florida than this kid.
You aren't this clueless.

It has nothing to do with him having us "by the balls.". In case you can't wrap your mind around it, there's a lot of ground between "never visit" and "kid on team; around a lot."

Business sense is managing your assets and resources. Your false dichotomy is bs.

Honestly, I'd rather let Golden handle the team motivation. It most likely wouldn't be a good situation if Ray Lewis was around the team a lot and not on staff.

Former players got us Coker and Shannon. More often then not, typing to please former players does not work out. While they have good intentions, they aren't getting paid to make decisions because they aren't qualified. Show me the team where former players helped them win a national championship by "being around a lot". It doesn't happen.

The bottom line is Golden doesn't need Ray Lewis to succeed, or his son. If player X is good enough to get an offer, then offer, and if he happens to be Ray Lewis's son that is great. But it needs to be done that way.

I'm sorry...did you just suggest that Jarrett Payton didn't work out here?

He was obviously worth the scholarship...but he didn't exactly pan out to be a great RB. The only similarities between him and his dad was the name above the number.

So you only offer a kid if he's going to be as good as his dad? In that case, don't ever offer anyone named Payton, since Walter's the greatest football player who ever lived IMO. Jarrett Payton had an excellent career at Miami. And yeah, he was way worthy of his scholarship.

Peer motivation has a place in a college locker room. Ed Reed's value to the U off the field was as high as his value between the lines.

I Remember when we took a sleeper named Daniel Adderley.....and he left school 3 months later. More often than not these types dont work out.

How many 504-yard games did Daniel Adderley have in high school?

This kid is extremely productive on offense and defense and seems to have great character. This isn't a project, he already has offers from Tennessee and USF early on in the process.

Clay Matthews got a preferred walk-on spot as a "legacy" and ended up as an All-Pro. When someone grows up immersed in football and achievement, it makes a difference.

Those would be "offers"...not offers. I don't think this kid has a D1 scholarship offer. USF has not offered...neither has Tennessee

The kid claims to have offers from these schools in his interview with with IITU. IITU reports it on their website, so either he lied about the offers or he has them. I am thinking he had offers from those schools.

Anybody know his real measurables? I've seen 5'9" 4.7 and 5'11" 4.5

He looks like a slot wr to me

Scout has him at 4.5 on the 40yd, maybe Larry or Tano could better answer who and where that was timed. A year ago it was apparently 4.7.

If we actually give this kid a scholarship...as a freshman (maybe he turns out to be a ST stud and earn one his junior year or something)...bring this thread back and I will eat my crow.

Until then, this is a "offer" that simply means he will be on the roster. There is NO ******* WAY this kid has a spot in 16-18 man class at the University of Miami.

Golden is not going to give some D2 kid a scholarship because his dad is Ray Lewis. Not happening, and I'm sure Ray is on board with that. Being on the team will be a great experience for him...let him say he "committed" and has an "offer"...he is a walk-on.

We're seriously comparing Daniel Adderley to Ray Lewis' son who is a US Army All American. Wow.

Think about how much better our LBs will be, just having Ray around to pick his brain. ****, wouldn't surprise me if Ray ends up being a coach here in a couple of years when he retires; then his son will be here for free

He looks closer to a 4.7 than a 4.5 to me. His quickness and footwork look tremendous, though.

I like the string of highlights beginning at 1:39. Good football player.

ON that YouTube description that have him at 4.7, but scout currently has him at 4.5 and in his interview with IITU he claims he was timed at 4.5, so maybe he got faster? He says he wants to be at 4.3.

D$- what do you think of him as a CB? His feet look great and looks like he'd be able to swivel. Kid looked pretty sure tackling in those highlights

His tackling definitely looked solid. His long speed would worry me a bit at corner, but he maybe he can be an inside guy. Could also see him as a slot receiver if his hands are any good.

Perhaps he should try running down a hill.

Gotta have 5 years of tenure for that last part. Hence why Brandon Harris was still on scholarship.

Unless Ray knows the in's and out's of our defense he really can't help much. Ray was a film freak and played in a system that let him run free. You can't teach what made/makes Ray one of the greatest ever.

We basically already have a "Ray Lewis" on staff in Barrow...and I'm not exactly 100% sold on that experiment.
