Week 12 college football thoughts...

@k9cane great write up. Could not have said it better. It’s all on Miami. We can say the Top 12 is biased but it’s up to Miami win all 3 games.

I stated prior to the GAtech game that Miami had 2 paths to the tournament:

- go unbeaten in the regular season

- or if you don't, win the ACC title game

The loss last week took away one of the options. The reality is that the ACC teams don't get mulligans like those in the SEC and Big10

Brohm overrated. Ask Louisville fans about him and they say the same stuff we say about Mario. His time management stinks. This season has been a disappointment for the Cards as Miami and SMU jumped over them in the ACC.

The Cards might finish at 7-5

Whew that's another one. His own fans were booing at him for all the bad coaching in that Clemson game. That goal line stance was so bad
I don’t want to hear anything about them having a backup qb that was a straight choke job.

Also so very poorly coached games by him in uva, smu and cal. I feel like our fans lose perspective on some of the other acc coaches they put on a pedestal.

100 percent agree, last year they did that with Norvell and we know how that went lol

Came ward can throw for 1200 yards and 10 tuddies in the next 3 games.
But if we drop to smu in charlotte by even 1 point, they’re not putting us in the playoffs.

The two teams that have most benefited from the demise of the Pac12 are Colorado and Washington State. Colorado got the big 12 cakewalk and Wazzu essentially got a MWC schedule. The Buffalos played 5 ranked teams last year and lost all five. They’ve played one this year (a loss to Kansas State)

WSU gets to trade their P4 schedule for Fresno, Hawaii, San Jose, San Diego State, Utah State, New Mexico and Wyoming. That’s like Miami leaving the ACC and getting an CUSA schedule

Unfortunately, this is the reality. If we finish the regular season 11 - 1 and make the ACC, it should be considered a successful season, but losing to SMU (and failing to make the CFP) will be a bitter pill to swallow.

Preseason: Our schedule is cheeks and the ACC blows as a conference, but it is funny FSU got left out in 2023-2024

Now: Committee is incredibly biased, everyone hates us, I can't believe the ACC is not getting more teams in the playoffs

**** the ACC. Just win.

Lets see what committee does if Clemson beats South Carolina at home, Miami wins out, SMU wins out, and say GT plays another tight game with UGA in Athens.
IF you have a 11-1 Miami, 11-1 SMU, 10-2 Clemson it would be a good look for ACC.

I think Texas A&M loses to Texas close. Louisville already lost. Washington State already lost. Kansas State already lost as those were teams ahead of Clemson last week.. Lets see what committee does with a 10-2 Clemson team and winner of ACC title game. Theyll be right on edge then it depends who else loses.

Maybe the Louisvile loss to Stanford undo's any chance ACC had of 2 teams in, as it was that bad.

Another great Footballpalooza at Coach JB's Football Bar and Cigar Lounge (which was capped off by UFC 309 -- yes, we watched it)..

- Colorado continues to rack up victories. As always, Shaduer Sanders and Travis Hunter will be spotlighted, but the way the Buffs have gotten better defensively is overlooked. Guys like Nikhai Green-Hill and LaVonta Bentley real thumpers, and Amari McNeill have steadily improved. CU is actually a well-rounded team

As for Utah, it's too bad that their QB situation turned out the way it did. It really had an impact on the rest of their team

- The demise of Georgia was exaggerated. But for them to protect their home turf wasn't that big of a surprise. If they get that version of Carson Beck the rest of the way, there are still very few teams that can play with them. As for the Vols, Nico I. has been a disappointment. Not only has he not been worth $8 million, he's not playing at the Hendon Hooker-level, and to be fair, he doesn't have a Jalen Hyatt or Cedric Tillman surrounding him.

- Wasn't completely surprised by Kansas upsetting BYU. The Cougars are another team (like Miami) that had lived on the edge and you get the sense that there would be a week where that caught up to them. The Jayhawks are several plays away from being an 8 win team. They are better than their record

- I see a lot being made over Brian Kelly screaming and yelling at his players. Bottom line, to me, that's old-school coaching. I don't mind it. Football is a tough game. But in today's culture, the optics will not be in his favor. It is what it is. My view is, when you're winning, it will be accepted and even lauded as being tough and having a sound culture of accountability. But when you're a disappointing team like LSU, well, it will be critisized.

- Im a fan of coach Brohm at L'Ville, but his decision making at the end of the Stanford game was a clinic on how to throw away a game. The simple decision was to just punt and take the game to overtime. Instead it became Murphy's Law that last 30 seconds

- Notre Dame is rolling. Yeah, you can continue to point to the Northern Illinois loss, but they are getting what they wanted from Riley Leonard at quarterback.

- Why has the Heisman talk on Ashton Jeanty died down? At the very least, he should be invited to New York in December.

- Anyone notice the job Kenny Dillinghman is doing at Arizona State in year 2? He should be in the coach of the year discussion.

- Miami had a bye week, so we were all spared from watching that defense. The bottom line for the #Canes is very simple -- it's a three game playoff to get to the playoffs. Lose one, and you're out. Complain all you want about the rankings and bias (I get it) but the ACC is only getting one team in the 12-team tourney
Kansas is going to spoil Neons season.

I'd Take Brohm and Narduzzi as coordinators in a heartbeat though.
You would have to be crazy not to take those 2. We might just be in a position where we have to fill both coordinator spots if Dawson leaves to be a head coach and Mario decides to move on from Guidry. If that were to happen this offseason there is one name I keep coming back to for OC. Eric Morris who is currently the head coach at North Texas. I believe he has a base salary of $900,000. He was Cam Ward’s OC at Incarnate Word and Washington State if I'm not mistaken and one of the best QB coaches and offensive minds in the game. Now that Cam Ward is moving on after this year, getting a seasoned QB coach/OC and overall brilliant offensive mind like Morris would be a masterstroke as it would make us an extremely desirable program for talented quarterbacks looking for the best place to get developed and to showcase their skills. From Mario's perspective, it would be the mic drop at the end of a complete transformation from where good QBs go to die to the place where every QB wants to go. All that and Morris has head coaching experience. It's just a thought but not as far fetched as some would think given the time and effort Mario has spent trying to court Jason Candle to no avail.

For DC the one name I would like to see us seriously pursue is current Denver Broncos DB coach and former Wisconsin DC Jim Leonhard. Leonhard built the Badger defense into a perennial powerhouse as Wisconsin would routinely finish top 5 in every defensive statistical category that mattered.

What we want to build here is an elite level program. There's much more to that than just recruiting. Mario needs to build an elite staff and to do that he must have two elite coordinators. They don't have to be the two I mentioned above but they must be elite.

What do you think of Cal’s HC if he gets fired? He always seemed to coach his side of the ball well and he and Mario know each other.

That's a great question and Wilcox is an intriguing possibility. The truth is that most of what I know about him are things I've heard and I would need to do a good amount of research before I could give you an informed opinion. I'll look into him and get back with you. In the meantime the board will provide plenty of opinions on Wilcox to more than hold you over lol.
