we knew the secondary was trash

I don’t think the dline and lb play was as bad as we say..Now kiko was terrible but i don’t think wes should be lumped in with him, the staff kept kiko on the field

Dline wasn’t elite, as always the fanbase overrated by thinking everyone will just have a career year, typical best case scenario only talks in the offseason.

But i think guidry’s tendencies and the secondary play being so weak and basically left no margin for error on the dline.

When we covered they got pressure, everyone kept saying oh the dline will cover a weak secondary but thats never the case..It has to be some solid medium but if the dbs are bad and we get out schemed then the dline wont cover up the issues. How can they disrupt if the ball is out quick cause someone is open

See, this is the part I don’t understand. We’re just fans but we ALL knew the secondary was going to be a huge problem all year. I kept waiting for us to go after 2-3 solid DB’s in the portal yet it never happened. As a HC you can’t neglect any part of your team. It doesn’t matter if you recruit at an A or B level for the majority of the positions if you recruit at a below average level for one it’s going to come back to bite you. The secondary has been neglected for awhile now going back to when Addae was here.
everyone says the portal is the answer ... there are only so many guys that are legit ... it's unreasonable expectations

cam saved the team from being the same as every other canes team. what's worse is that we had he best offense in the country in school history and we still barely escaped some ACC games and lost 2 in conference
Even crazier is with how great the offense has been statistically they had crazy lawls in the second quarter most of the year. Where teams could start chopping away at the lead.

yup. you could tell teams adjusted on us and we couldn't counter and eventually cam being cam and us having more talent won away.

the best game we played all year was at UF from a coaching perspective. it went downhill after that.

I said the DL was overrated this year but I dont think it was as bad as it seemed either. Guidry was part of the issue with his constant stunting. btw, that safety blitz in the fourth quarter was LOL worthy. you were better off just dropping 7 into coverage (they scored anyways on that play).

also, you still left your corners on an island. literally no counters. no in game coaching. this is as poorly coached of a team as we've seen that was covered up by cam.

its inexcusable going into year 4 of this regime.

That’s likely where the opening game script plays ran out. Then they had to figure out what to do next.

Elite DL play starts in the middle

We had Mesidor playing DT majority of the year

DL was never going to be elite, Barrow was a nice little player but his teammate that went to Oregon is 5x the player

Mario better pray Justin Scott, Blount, and the rest of that DL class from last year, including Bain improve for next year because in TrumpyCanes opinion that will be key

It always seems when a player is playing poorly “fighting through injuries” seem to be right on queue

Kiko even when healthy is a liability and at this point we really need to stop calling him a linebacker because all he’s decent at is blitzing. The moment he has to go into coverage it’s like playing with 10 players on defense.

Or they are playing out of position. See DP Jr…that’s all we heard all year. “He’s playing out of position. He’s not a slot.”
Goes back to the boundary and gets worked

no way to sugar coat it, he was BAD this year ... and i love the guy's toughness and mental makeup... i will say i wish he was helped scheme and coverage wise ... but it was obvious going back to usf/ball state he had a bullseye on him

It’s one thing to be bad in the secondary. It’s another thing to not communicate and be confused every single F n play. Either the kids are stupid or don’t understand and when you combine poor communication with lack of talent you give up 42 Fing points to a team that barely beat Uconn

We said all year on the podcast that the defense and the defensive backfield in particular would be the team’s weakness.

Where I was wrong was the defensive line. I expected us to be much better there and cover up holes.
Failure by Miami to recruit the secondary adequately in four out of the last five cycles was the Achilles heel. We entered the year undermanned at safety and cornerback, and the few blue chip players that we had did not overperform.

Even Kam Kinchens looked like **** in this scheme.

About 45-55 million NIL

5 million to the best at each position of need on the defense which is almost all of them.
