We said all year on the podcast that the defense and the defensive backfield in particular would be the team’s weakness.

Where I was wrong was the defensive line. I expected us to be much better there and cover up holes.

As a um alumni class of 07 I don't think people realized we have been average or below average since 05. That's 20 years. I'm out the mindset that we have regressed and progressed as a program this year in areas. I think you need to get rid of most of the defensive coaches. The dlines inability to set the edge is a fireable offense. We need better players we need players that project to the first and second day of the draft. If we can't get defensive difference makers from the portal we are screwed. I'm not gonna trash Mario like most of the people on this site. he is a cane and bleeds orange and green. We had to change and improve.

Didn’t expect Mauigoa to take such a step back. He’s gutting through some injuries but also has weaknesses that teams exploit.

its why guidry has to be accountable ... we were too predictable in regards to tendencies ... certain looks and motions offensively gave them the matchups they wanted and the made us pay

There's a reason I pay very little attention to spring and fall practice reports from any source. There isn't an eye for talent that sees enough, posts here, and yes, that leads to false expectations. It's cool though, the enthusiasm is there and many here apparently need that. You'll see the same enthusiasm for a lot of recruits, it's the nature of websites and fandom.

just didnt realize linebacker play and dl play was gonna be subpar too ... contrary to most, this isn't nc per se ... it lands at the feet of the defensive staff ... defense never broke tendency and good coaches feasted on us ... not sure guidry can fix this, as his entire philosophy has to change ...

Same here. And I didn’t know the D line wouldn’t show up. Bain had to be playing hurt. There’s so much to blame on D night as well just say our defense was trash. 38 points should win you a game on the road.

Yep. Limitations or not, he was a tackling machine in 2023. Not the case this year as he just joined the rest of the D in being a couple steps slow in coverage and nothing special against the run.

Everyone knew the secondary was trash pre season and Mario brought in one CB. Dyoni Hill. Round of applause for our glorified recruiting coordinator.

See, this is the part I don’t understand. We’re just fans but we ALL knew the secondary was going to be a huge problem all year. I kept waiting for us to go after 2-3 solid DB’s in the portal yet it never happened. As a HC you can’t neglect any part of your team. It doesn’t matter if you recruit at an A or B level for the majority of the positions if you recruit at a below average level for one it’s going to come back to bite you. The secondary has been neglected for awhile now going back to when Addae was here.

The DL was supposed to be elite and it just wasn’t at any point this year. Kiko regressed big time but I don’t know if he was playing hurt or not. Secondary was a bottom 5 unit in CFB.

I got attacked by a couple buffoons after the VT game for saying the defense had major issues. They ran and got our d rankings and said I was being negative. No , some of us actually know what we see on film. The defensive unit had so many issues from simple aligning , tackling and keeping leverage.

Week one at UF I posted multiple times UF left a few Td’s off the board by missing blown assignments. Being there sitting **** near on the 50 yard line exposed a lot. Ironically enough @IndayArtHauz said the same thing being at the GT game live.

I get people are desperate to be relevant again but this team was a paper tiger all year. Having a great offense with its own flaws covering up our blemishes. Fact is the issues was always there some just to live in delusion. They feel that makes you a bigger fan rather than living in reality.

cam saved the team from being the same as every other canes team. what's worse is that we had he best offense in the country in school history and we still barely escaped some ACC games and lost 2 in conference.

overall, I thought Mario did fine this year to erase what was some awful coaching last 2 years. I thought his coordinator let him down. the decision to go for 3 erased it all. he still isnt a guy who knows the game in terms of feel. a chart or even a coach can only do so much.

offensively, we use SOOOO much time. we dont play in a hurry. going for 3 after burning the entire clock and nearly getting 3 delay of games on drives is horrific.

at some point, I thought Mario should have gone for an onside kick to steal a possession when we went up 28-21.
