just didnt realize linebacker play and dl play was gonna be subpar too ... contrary to most, this isn't nc per se ... it lands at the feet of the defensive staff ... defense never broke tendency and good coaches feasted on us ... not sure guidry can fix this, as his entire philosophy has to change ...

The DL was supposed to be elite and it just wasn’t at any point this year. Kiko regressed big time but I don’t know if he was playing hurt or not. Secondary was a bottom 5 unit in CFB.

HIs philosophy can change while driving a school bus back in the Louisiana swamp land next semester. He failed horribly cost this team a shot going deep into the playoffs. He has been a liability all year.

Same here. And I didn’t know the D line wouldn’t show up. Bain had to be playing hurt. There’s so much to blame on D night as well just say our defense was trash. 38 points should win you a game on the road.

Genuinely shocked at how medicore to bad the DL turned out to be. So much talent squandered you start to wonder if the DL coaches are just not that good.
consistently unable to get lined up was the first sign ... holding guys accountable was the other red flag

I don’t know the X&Os like some here but I found it unreal how Tyler Baron the entire season every game every snap was just going super wide the entire time. He was never coming back inside. It was so weird they never adjusted that at all. Bain’s either regressed, got too fat, or was hurt still and came back too early.

We said all year on the podcast that the defense and the defensive backfield in particular would be the team’s weakness.
Where I was wrong was the defensive line. I expected us to be much better there and cover up holes.

It is maybe not a coincidence that they looked better early against UF before the book was fully out on the defense, they weren't elite against UF but they got enough stops and weren't confused and out of position all the time.
There are probably G5 teams that we could have imported the entire defensive roster and staff from that would have given us better defensive results on the year than what we got.

Didn’t expect Mauigoa to take such a step back. He’s gutting through some injuries but also has weaknesses that teams exploit.

LBs have looked like they were running in quicksand all year. I agree with you about the DL massively underperforming, but I just didn't think the LBs would be much this year (and they didn't disappoint lol).
