We all knew THEY were paying players long before these NIL deals started.

Quote from Jimbo Fisher on Paul Finebaum show.

Texas A&M front man Jimbo Fisher says that these financial incentives have been part of the recruiting for game for years, but nobody talked about it.

“There were a lot of NIL deals going on before all this was going on,” Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher said during a spot on Paul Finebaum’s show. “They just weren’t legal. Nobody told nobody.”

It's been going on for 50+ years. Read a book called "A Payroll to Meet" about the SMU program. They were far from the only ones doing it. The NCAA thought they were gonna put a stop to it when they gave SMU the death penalty. Instead SMU became a lesson for the NCAA in why they needed to turn their back on this activity.

I compare it to the quote from economist Milton Friedman on the drug war. Its the same for the NCAA and the major programs. The role of the NCAA is to protect the criminal activity of the bigtime programs.

I saw video of Joe Bosa telling a reporter that the Chargers initial offer to him when he was a first round draft pick was less money than he was making at Ohio State. Ive looked for that video and cannot find it but did find this article noting it. (below) And you'll notice no one opened an NCAA investigation over these comments.

Not arguing with the thesis that these guys were getting paid all along, especially programs like OSU. But "thisissnark" dot com? Is this not some kind of very bad joke website? Or are you saying this was a joke article written in response to an actual comment he made?

Exhibit A:

"Bosa’s Ft. Lauderdale home was swarmed with media members to which he gave a statement to ESPN’s Thisis Satire
“I just want it to be fair [man]. I made a good living playing at Ohio State with those game checks we got. I’m not taking a pay-cut from what I made as a Buckeye. I would have stayed in school. I’ve given the Chargers a ‘best’ offer of my own, one that would match my salary at school. Simple as that. I would have stayed in school if I knew I was taking a dip in my salary.”

@CaneintheWilderness - I split that post into two separate posts. You were too quick on the draw. lol

The Joe Bosa quote is real. Ive seen the video. As I recall, Bosa was out partying in public and was drunk. A reporter with a cell phone camera asked him if he was going to sign with the Chargers. His response was that he wasnt going to sign for less than he was making at Ohio State. Youtube took the video down. No surprise.

The issue will always be that certain schools are allowed to go far and beyond, while others get sanctions for free dinners.

Yup. As I noted in my post where I quoted Milton Friedman. Its all about economics. The role of the government is to protect criminal activity in the US that generates a ton of money and jobs. The role of the NCAA is to protect the big name programs at the expense of the little ones.

That's why I hold Jerry Tarkanian in the highest regard. He was the greatest **** you to the NCAA in history. The NCAA tried to take down Tarkanian and UNLV for recruiting a kid who never played nor even enrolled at UNLV and Tark publicly called out the NCAA for it.

But, but, but ... Florida State is in the ACC and only the SEC cheats, right?

Noles were in the top tier of "Pay for Play" even before this stuff was legal
