VT in a Nut Shell

No Duke and no Dorset is a big big problem for this game. Neither team may score more than 10 points.

This has the makings for an ugly game. The good news is the game is at Miami and not ****sburgh. Also Bush made some strides and The D is pretty healthy.

Not having Duke is going to hurt this week. We may figure out the committee after this game but this is not the opponent where you want to lose your difference maker on offense.

Last year Duke stiff-armed his way to a Miami victory. It's a huge blow not having him. In a game where we won't get much going on offense, it's so crucial to have that one guy who can hit a big play when those rare opportunities present themselves.

Someone talk me off the ledge. I'm not one who usually goes off on rants, or has knee jerk reactions, and I went to bed in a good mood last night since I have Andre Johnson in my fantasy league, and got my 50 points by halftime, but I woke up at like 2 and didn't fall back asleep for 2 hours worrying about the VT (and even Duke) game. With Duke, I think we win rather handily, though VT's defense still keeps it closer than we'd like. Without Duke, please someone show me or tell me where the points are going to come from. I have this nagging feeling we're in for a 13-10 game, and our luck of winning close games is going to run out. Duke has an explosive offensive and without our Duke, can we keep up with them? Dammit man, I'm usually the ****ing voice of reason around here.

I don't know what to say, so I will just continue to give my 2 cents.

VT will come in this game the same way UNC and WF will come into this game. This will be their super bowl. This will be their biggest game of the season. We're a rival and we beat them last year. VT is also coming off two big fat Ls. They will be ready for this game. They could still possibly win the division.

Here is the truth: We just got beat bad by our rival and lost our best player for the year. So what? Is that it? Do we fold? Fu.ck no, we have to respond. We still control our destiny. We still can have another chance against FSU. This game right here is the biggest game of the season, we win and we're on pace for a rematch against FSU. VT is a rival, we all hate them. This game is winnable and in fact, we're the favorite.

The other truth: VT is a team of EXTREMES. Extremely good defense (top 3), extremely terrible offense. VT has trouble winning games even when their defense rapes the opponent.

My opinion: I know people are scared that Renner and Prince played well against our defense, but LT is not on their level. LT has a big body and runs a lot. He is not fast either, he just runs. He completes less than 60% of his passes and even with all of that (his inability to throw the ball) VT has trouble winning games because they can't run the ball well. They are handicapped in the ground game.

Last year our defense sucked, now our defense is pretty good. LT got knocked around good last year and he folded, I expect the same.

IMO, if we don't turn it over and can have some success on offense (21 points) that is too much for VT. The theme of the game is don't make mistakes. Don't let VT return a kickoff, don't let VT have a pick six.

i agree with just about everything. But if you aren't concerned that Thomas may put it together and give us his best game, I believe you are being overly optimistic.

And while Thomas may not be super fast, he is big and very hard to bring down. he's the type of QB that can give our defense fits on 3d downs, escaping the backfield for 7+ yard gains to sustain drives.

we have to bring our A game to win. hopefully, we will have a big crowd, bc the homefield advantage could be a big factor.

all that said, the team (ie QB) with the least turnovers is going to win this game.

Must win game for the ACC CG - we get to replay the Noles.

As long as our D doesn't make Logan Thomas all-world and we win easily.

Which means the DEFENSIVE line must know how to close out! Stop taking the wrong angle on the QB. If they only would take the wright angle on the qb we would've stopped FSU at least on 4 of those td's.
