VT 6-3 (3-2), 2-1 on the road (v. Bama was a neural site)

Wins: W. Carolina 2-7 (1-4) , E. Carolina 6-2 (4-1), Marshall 5-3 (3-1), G-Tech 6-3 (5-2), UNC 3-5 (2-3) and Pitt 4-4 (2-3)

Losses: Bama 8-0 (5-0), 6-2 (2-2) and BC 4-4 (2-3)

Overall W/L: 44-30 (26-19)
Avg PPG (Season): 22.11
Avg PPG (ACC Play): 20.00

Scoring Offense: 100th at 22.1 PPG
Total Offense: 101st at 348 YPG
Rushing Offense: 107th at 116.8 YPG
Passing Offense: 65th at 231.2 YPG

Scoring Defense: 8th at 16.9 PPG
Total Defense: 3rd at 253.2 YPG
Rushing Defense: 9th at 102.7 YPG
Rushing Offense: 1st at 150.6 YPG

We will never see an opponent with this much of an extreme difference in the quality of their offense versus the quality of their defense. If you need any evidence of this, please watch their performance against Duke.

If I told you that our Defense was going to hold the opponent to 13 total points, 200 total yards and we forced 4 turnovers. I bet you would all think that we won by 30+ points. Well LT threw 4 picks of his own, the kicker missed 2 FGs and they only scored 10 total points.

This is a top 5 defense overall and they’re coached incredibly well on this side of the ball. The offense on the other hand is pretty bad. This team relied on a running attack, but they haven’t had one since Mr. Wilson in 2011.

There is no need to talk about their defense IMO.

Logan Thomas (season):
Passing: 167 for 300 (55.7%) 2056 Yards, 11 TDs and 12 INTs
Rushing: 121 for 296 Yards and 4 TDs

Logan Thomas (ACC):
Passing: 102 for 166 (61.4%) 1358 Yards, 7 TDs and 6 INTs
Rushing: 85 for 284 and 2 TDs

Last year LT was not able to swing the game and our defense was much much much worse. His numbers are pretty similar to last year as well.

Trey Edumnds Freshman RB

Rushing (Season): 125 for 447 Yards 5 TDs
Receiving (Season): 12 for 92 1 TD
Rushing (ACC): 47 for 95 Yards 2 TDs
Receiving (ACC): 8 for 57 Yards 1 TDs

Joshua Stanford Freshman WR (His stats are a little deceiving)

Receiving (Season): 27 for 455 Yards 0 TD
Receiving (ACC): 15 for 324 Yards
Against BC: 6 for 171 Yards (38% of his receiving yards come against BC)

Kalvin Cline Freshman TE (because everyone will ask do they have one)

Receiving (Season): 20 for 230 Yards 2 TDs
Receiving (ACC): 13 for 160 Yards 2 TDs

Adding another big thing...

Goudis will need to hit his FGs. Every point against VT counts because their offense is garbage. For them to score a FG is a big deal.

VT's offense has been abysmal this season, but their defense scares the **** out of me. Morris needs to figure out how to keep the ball away from the other team or it could be a 9-6 game.

at least on TV, he appears to lack confidence, which is a huge liability for a kicker.

Someone talk me off the ledge. I'm not one who usually goes off on rants, or has knee jerk reactions, and I went to bed in a good mood last night since I have Andre Johnson in my fantasy league, and got my 50 points by halftime, but I woke up at like 2 and didn't fall back asleep for 2 hours worrying about the VT (and even Duke) game. With Duke, I think we win rather handily, though VT's defense still keeps it closer than we'd like. Without Duke, please someone show me or tell me where the points are going to come from. I have this nagging feeling we're in for a 13-10 game, and our luck of winning close games is going to run out. Duke has an explosive offensive and without our Duke, can we keep up with them? Dammit man, I'm usually the ******* voice of reason around here.

Their defense is legit, their offense may be best suited to just play the field possession game and not make mistakes.

I don't know what to say, so I will just continue to give my 2 cents.

VT will come in this game the same way UNC and WF will come into this game. This will be their super bowl. This will be their biggest game of the season. We're a rival and we beat them last year. VT is also coming off two big fat Ls. They will be ready for this game. They could still possibly win the division.

Here is the truth: We just got beat bad by our rival and lost our best player for the year. So what? Is that it? Do we fold? Fu.ck no, we have to respond. We still control our destiny. We still can have another chance against FSU. This game right here is the biggest game of the season, we win and we're on pace for a rematch against FSU. VT is a rival, we all hate them. This game is winnable and in fact, we're the favorite.

The other truth: VT is a team of EXTREMES. Extremely good defense (top 3), extremely terrible offense. VT has trouble winning games even when their defense rapes the opponent.

My opinion: I know people are scared that Renner and Prince played well against our defense, but LT is not on their level. LT has a big body and runs a lot. He is not fast either, he just runs. He completes less than 60% of his passes and even with all of that (his inability to throw the ball) VT has trouble winning games because they can't run the ball well. They are handicapped in the ground game.

Last year our defense sucked, now our defense is pretty good. LT got knocked around good last year and he folded, I expect the same.

IMO, if we don't turn it over and can have some success on offense (21 points) that is too much for VT. The theme of the game is don't make mistakes. Don't let VT return a kickoff, don't let VT have a pick six.

Must win game for the ACC CG - we get to replay the Noles.

As long as our D doesn't make Logan Thomas all-world and we win easily.

That should be their gameplan. Wait for Morris to make a mistake and take advantge.

VT keeps it pretty balanced too in the play calling.

304 Passing Attempts v. 328 Rushing Attempts

VT has excellent DB, that are ball hawks. VT defense has 17 int on the season. The 2 freshman DB they got, have a total of 9 int. Morris better not play the hero **** this weekend. Better get ready to get that gimp leg ready for running, and dumping the ball off to his TE, and backs.

Consigliere I agree with all the things you've said. But I believe their problem on offense is they rely on Logan Thomas too often. He's just not the QB they were envisioning when they moved him from TE. I heard Channing Crowder and Brandon Guzio saying this about Tannehill a couple weeks back, just because you are athletic and have flashes of being a fine QB doesn't exactly translate on the field. Being an efficient QB requires understanding the little things. Like feeling pressure, having an inner clock on when to bail on the play and run for yards, or knowing when to take a sack and when to throw it away. That comes with experience and QBs that are successful have been at it ever since they were kids. So there's my comment on the matter

Morris needs to check the ball down and make the smart play. Take what is given.

We absolutely cannot give them short fields to work with

It's easy to make fun of LOLogan Thomas, but the matchup of Stephen Morris against their secondary doesn't exactly give me a chubby.

Their D is excellent. Like I said, I am expecting 2 INTs from here on out per game. That might not be enough for VT to take advantage of unless they score on those INTs.

Also, for VT to get points on a drive is a big deal. Here is there X-Factor.

Cody Journell: 10 for 16 and 9/9

This guy has lost games all by himself, against Duke he missed 2 FGs under 50 yards. He missed the Marshall game, if he is there they don't go to overtime. Now all of the sudden against BC he is perfect and kicks a 56 yard field goal. Who is this guy?

With duke down it's up to Morris to lead us to a W. And I'm not saying he needs 50 attempts and all that I'm saying he needs to tighten up and take what he's given and get us 1st downs when we look stuck on 3rd. Crawford will soften the duke injury but it's gonna hurt losing him. ,orris needs to step up and lose that int proneness he's been showing

Sounds like a major duel of mediocrity.

Journell vs our very own Wide Left king Goudis

Then the duel of Camp MVP, and future NFL HoF QB's

LT VS SteMo.

Big fan Chip.

I think they have to rely on LT because they have no one else. You would think when your QB does things like this (see below), you would go to the backup or run it more. He does this all the time when people get pressure on him.

Since David Wilson left they have lost the ability to run the ball. Edmunds and Coleman don't offer enough of a rushing attack to take pressure of Thomas. Instead, they use Thomas to run as well but it is very predictable.

Hahaha.

We need to put pressure on Thomas. It's as simple as that. He's a totally different QB (i.e., a bad one) when he is pressured. If we give him all day to throw he is capable of picking us apart.
