VT has the best defense in the country???

I'm not ready to call their defense "great"

i think that we should be able to throw the ball on them. our OL should be able to protect well and I think our WRs will find separation against their DBs

VTs offense is AWFUL. we will stack the box and pressure Lolgan.

Canes win 20-10

VT's defense is what it is every year under Foster - very, very good. But, as one might expect of a Gator, Palmer was way over the top. Other than obviously Alabama, they havent played anybody. Shockingly, GT struggles to run the ball. Word is their QB is the best passer of the Paul Johnson era (talk about a backhanded compliment), but doesn't appear a great runner himself and struggles running the option.

Palmer and others point to VT shutting down Alabama. Well, hard to say shut them down when you lose 35-10. Also, Bama scored TDs on returns of a kickoff, punt and interception. So their offense wasn't on the field mushc and didn't really have to much. Believe they ran about 60 plays.

Based on what saw of the VT secondary last night, Morris and his receivers can do some damage if the OL gives them time.

Finally, if Miami is really back and headed in the right direction, it needs to have its way with both GT and VT. We shall see.

VT will be a tough game. Their D looks plenty good enough to stop what we've shown on O so far, and both are likely to get better between now and then. This sets up like another UFudgepacker game to me.

Naw.... Marshall almost beat them.

VT had a better defense then we did last year but after going back and forth for awhile we blew them out in the end.... Its not going to be like that this year imo.

I think Miami is going to come out the gate and just look like the better team.....

Miami's defense is going to shut them down and Miami's offense is going to expose that defense.

Honestly, I think VT's defense is the same as they are every year, but GT's offense was pathetic. They looked slow and out of shape. Their lineman look like highschool kids and, watch the last interception, the GT WR just waits for the ball and lets the DB grab it.
Overall I though GT's performance was pitiful. No physicality what so ever.

They have a good opportunistic defense. Don't believe it is enough to counter, not having a premier back. VT lives off the two, and Thomas **** sure needs it in order to duplicate what he did in 2011.

Agreed. The thing for VT is look at this schedule...[4-1 (1-0)]

1. UNC
2. Pitt
3. Duke
4. @ BC
5. @ Miami
6. Maryland
7. @ UVA

They should have no problem winning 5 of those games. I know they will drop at least one they should win but other then our game, that schedule is weak sauce.

Don't look now, but Vag Tech has a great defense. Not good. Not above average. Great. This is one of those years where everything is in place for Pud. He's got a couple great DTs. A great LB. And some really good DBs. He's got players at all 3 levels, and those motherfckers are going to be a bear.

Everything is in place for Bud but the team as a whole will suffer greatly because of that offense. That offense can't do much.

If you can put up 21 points against VT and limit turnovers, that is a game you win.

Their defense is so good that all they need to do is burn clock and manage to put up about 17 points, and they'll be a tough out. Thomas actually looked like he did in 2011 last night. I think he was 19-25 or something like that. Telling you guys right now that this will be a knock down drag out war.

I've said it before... You can't gage Logan Thomas' performance against a Ted Roof defense. Roof is a horrible DC and people in Auburn wanted him tortured & killed before he was fired! That GaTech defense is a really bad defense with one real playmaker (Attaochu) and one good DT. We will hold VaTech to less than 10 points and win by at least 14.

Listen, I'm not looking to crown anyone. Thomas has been beyond putrid for over a year, and during that time, he has played against defenses worse than GT's and been putrid. He played very well yesterday because he took the easy passes and didn't try to force passes like he's been doing while struggling.

And you guys can excuse away Vag Tech's defense, but I'm telling you that it's stupid to do so. They are a great defense that throttled GT and Bama, which are two good offensive teams. I've studied Pud Foster and his defenses over the years, and this is the type of collection of talent that allows him to do whatever he wants and doesn't leave gaping holes anywhere. Of course, Vag Tech is a beatable team, but UM (and anyone else for that matter) is going to have to see the devil a little to beat that team because that defense is suffocating.

Again, this is about their defensive performance against Alabama. Alabama had 66 yards rushing last week against Colorado State. Colorado State's defense gave up 203 yards rushing against Cal Poly the week before and 215 yards rushing against Tulsa. Tech's defense looks good so far, but not even close to their best in the last 5 to 10 years.

Don't tell me what it's about. I've watched them play every game this year. They completely throttled Bama's offense, which is a good offense, no matter what they did against CSU. Did you see what they did to TAMU? Now, of course, you'll counter by telling me that TAMU is the worst defense in the history of football. Bama was a good offense this, and they're better this year. VT made them eat their lunch.

GT is also a good offensive team, and VT humiliated them. So, no, it's not about one game. It's about their defense.

No, sir. Actually, VT's defense isn't really good every year. They have had many down years. This isn't one of those years because Pud has playmakers at every level and a couple of real stars to go along with the blue collar guys. Any defense with 2 horses like that at DT is going to be tough to deal with. Add in the Fuller brothers, and Tyler, and you're going to have your hands full with them.

GT's offense looked like **** BECAUSE of Vag Tech's defense. They made them look like ****.

While thats true. Regardless GT offense is **** against most good teams.

They have a great DC and are great or good at all three levels of the defense, to me that is an elite defense. They will also be geting back their number 2 CB in Exum soon, another good player in that secondary. The VT game will be a lot like Florida, low scoring, tough and very physical game but if we limit the turnovers and play sound we should win.

based on what

Dating back to last year, in every game against a great to elite defense our offense has gotten dominated.

VT usually always has tough defenses and this is one of their most talented defenses. Don`t get the hesitation by some.

Georgia Tech had a complete lack of pass protection. I mean, NONE.

I was sitting there drooling, thinking of AQM and others crashing the GT QB, and then Figs or Perryman busting his *** when he tries to scoot outside.

Virginia Tech's defense will be a handful. Make no mistake about it.

GT also would very likely have won that game if not for shooting themselves in the foot throughout the game. Constant false starts leaving them way behind on down and distance (in which an offense like theirs cannot operate effectively), option pitches that were way off target, etc. VTech's defense is very good. But GTech was sloppier than I've seen them in years.

Did you watch the game? VTs defense flat out mauled Bama's offense. The VT dl obliterated the Bama OL. Bama couldn't run. And McCarron was running for his life out there. VTs defense is definitely one of the best in the country. I suspect we'll have more success against them than we did against Florida primarily because it's later in the season and our offense should be clicking by then. And because they don't have Easley (with all due respect to Hopkins).
