Ventrelle Miller on Verge!!!

There seems to be a lot of debate on Gordiner's ability. Some have said he played well on scout team last year and will become a player for us. Then we have the he shouldn't be here crowd. I have heard my fair share of Greentree AA stories, but also think the negative bias against non-SFla guys is overblown. His HS film looked good and I believe he played good competition in Jersey, where they play big boy football. He is only a RSFreshman and clearly he feels like he belongs or I think he would have bolted when the misfit was canned and the staff purged. That is me speculating like everyone else. My question is, has anyone seen him play at practice or should we be in wait and see mode for spring ball?

Go Canes!

Didn't mean to hi-jack the thread either, just curious about where all the excitement, good and bad come from regarding Gordiner.

Go Canes!

Agree.

I've actually heard positives about him. JG and Milo are two names I always heard about from last year.

I'd fully expect him to get burn this season

We have 12 LBs on the team now...not counting Gayot and the two walk ons...only 1 is leaving...so do you really think we will pick up 3 more? Especially considering most of the 12 are Soph and Freshmen...
RS SophOwens medical
Gordiner RSFR
Smith RSFR
McCray Soph
Perry RSSOPH
Tabur RSFRH
Quarterman FR
McCloud FR
Pinkney FR
Young JR

some of those guys will be ran off the team like Gordinier, McCray, and possibly Smith. dont know who Tabur is.
I don't think so...

I agree they may not be ran off but they will leave on their own after getting passed up by freshman on the DC. We definitely need to take 3-4.
I think Gordiner is graded out number 2 for the LBs in Mat Drills behind Grace

Thanks for your insight because many here have know idea if any of these kids can ball, but are just name and star whores. I'm keeping an wait and see attitude since we have real coaching and and all will have to earn their play. You also bring up an interesting issue and certainly a very constrictive one. That maybe something the staff will wait it out and see which 2 or 3 they prefer closer to NSD, but for now recruit them all hard as ****. If we can and will take only 2 LB's then I'm all in on Miller and Wilder. If 3 then same names I stated before.

No one knows anything about Gordinier. He gets **** talked on here because he's white and he's from New Jersey.

He'll never be an elite starter, but I think he can be a solid Armbrister type.

A solid #3 LB who can either start or provide great depth.

I find it deplorable that this board doesn't instinctually **** talk everyone from Jersey, regardless of the color of their skin. Its 2016 people.

What are you basing this off of?

It's just my opinion. I said "I think he can" not "I think he will".

His high school tape wasn't half bad. Give him 3-4 years and I think he could develop nicely.

LBs also can grow into DEs, ask Jimmy
you bring in two-three, and let them grow
some will impact early, some provide depth, some add weight and become DEs

figure 2-3 of the core now will graduate, or move on b/c of depth and lack of playing time

How are people saying Gordiner is gone and we haven't seen him play a snap. That would be dumb as ever. Glad some of yall aren't coaches

These are the same people who wrote off Njoku last offseason.

Just because he's from Jersey doesn't mean he can't play.

Gordinier runs a **** 5.2 40. I hope like **** he isn't on the field. I doubt he beats out owen or grace some I'm not worried.

Gordinier should move to full back read before about it that sounds like a great move bc the kid there this year was buns. Think that's the only way he will play in his career

If he truly runs that slow then he needs to move to fullback... Richt is known for doing that, he did that with quavon hicks who was a consensus 4star dlineman and converted him to fullback

Where are you getting the data from?

You guys all sound like these people analyzing Luke Kuechly pre-NFL draft. For some reason a white linebacker from Boston College can't be fast or an elite athlete. There is an inherent bias going on against these type of linebackers. Kuechly was the fastest linebacker in the draft (4.58 forty) but was labeled as "slow and nonathletic" before the combine. Why? Against us, Kuechly ran step for step with Streeter on a fly pattern. He made Mike James look like he was running in slow motion. But he's from Boston College and he's white, so he must be slow and unathletic? Gordinier ain't even in the ballpark with Kuechly as a linebacker, I know he ain't running a 4.6, but I am just using him as an example to show how much bias goes on. Basically, let Gordinier get his snaps first and we will know more whether he belongs here.

Kuechly's pre-combine evaluations:
"Kuechly isn't a great athlete, nor is he a flashy personality. Kuechly is being touted by some as a top-15 player. It doesn't show up on film. Instead, the All-American looks like a third-rounder. And that's on a good day."

"The drafting of Luke Kuechly, while popular at the moment, would not be beneficial to the longterm future of the Panther's organization."

"Kuechly admittedly lacks special foot speed, but he makes up for it in instincts and intelligence."

Weaknesses:
Lacks great speed
Not a super athlete
