Coach D called every defense imaginable on that drive and none of them worked. Guys lost their man in coverage or got beat. Blitzers didn't get through. I know everyone is in melt down mode but at a certain point the players have to execute the play call. Sure we have some talent, but face it our players have limitations to their game. I.e. Morris some drives he looks like a heisman canidate on others a backup QB who can't make progressions. When you take your blinders off and realistically breakdown this team especially the defense, it's riddled with career underachievers and guys who've been injuried for most of their carrier. One of our starting safeties is AJ Highsmith who playing only his 15th colligate game at safety. Not to sound like an apologist but this team doesn't have all this "miami talent". Most of the guys on this board will say that Jimmy Gaines is a JAG then critize coach D if he gets beat in coverage. What I saw was guys fighting and believing they would get the game winning stop, up until they gave it up. The heart and the will was there. The skill and execution was not.

AG needed to burn those timeouts on each fourth down and the 1st and goal... Absolutely no reason to save them in that situation.

Totally agree. If for no other reason than to see how they line up, force them to call a new play and/or to make sure everyone on d is ready to execute.

our best players are all freshmen and sophomores, every playmaker other than Porter, Hurns, and McGee is a freshmen or a sophomore. Morris is average because he is so inconsistent and absolutely cannot be relied on

bad teams dont beat bad times every time. I think we beat them 8/10 times but they got us today. That holding away from the play call on 4th and 7 on the last drive was a gift to uva that should have been game over.

Losing a game like this sucks but when youre a bad team with hardly any senior leadership (M James) it happens. We need to beat USF and become bowl eligible so they can self impose and focus on recruiting because this season is a wash. Im not saying give up or stop trying just keep looking at the big picture

A coordinator who calls "every defense imaginable" is a coordinator who obviously is completely dumbfounded as to how to stop his opponent. It just proves the point that Donofrio was completely out coached and failed to put his players in a position to make a play. He was basically throwing **** at a wall and praying that something stuck. It proves he has no identity as to how he wants his defense to play.

When the middle of the field was wide-assed open ALL FRIKKIN' GAME, then I'd tend to disagree that we used 'every defense imaginable.'

No adjustment for that?

At least go down the sidelines and ask the players, "Is there ONE SOB here willing to STAY and cover the middle?"

I think it looked like every defense imaginable because they were never lined up at the snap. They didn't appear to know where they were going or supposed to go. I think at one point we rushed two and dropped 9, but I really don't think that was planned. I hope it wasn't.

the worst part about this game is that this is a game we had in the bag. thats why its upsetting

Wait, are the people saying we should have used timeouts serious? They scored the winning play with 6 seconds left...and you want to give them more time? UVA nearly ****ed up the game management by not calling the TO's themselves, why would we want to give them more time? One more play was all we needed...

Lulz at OP why are we running every defense imaginable? We have no identity... Thats coaching fault

If we run the ball on first down the series before they score they run out of time before they get close. We went incomplete, run, incomplete and used about 45 seconds. We had been running well all day and if we had run we would have used close to 2 minutes or forced them to use that t/o.

When your defense has given up 35 points in the game why would you have confidence in them? Atleast with say 25-40 seconds left your offense has a chance. Also with the timeouts you can atleast be lined up for the plays which we have struggled with all year and not panic and call a play where your most disruptive defensive lineman (Curtis Porter) is dropping into the flats on the go ahead score. But hey what do I know?

THIS THIS THIS ALL DAY THIS! I was screaming at the tv, what the eff are we doing? We screwed ourselves with that series, not the one following the safety.

Who's teaching this system where we "run every defense imaginable?"

Poet, all I'm saying is that we went blitzes, we played man, we played zone. At what point is it on the players to execute?

We switch between man, zone, blitz, prevent on practically every play. Former players have said over and over again that these kids aren't picking up D'Onofrio's scheme. (Bennie Blades being one of them)

Don't bother.

The general consensus is that Mark D'Onofrio is a clueless idiot (despite the evidence to the contrary), so you're not going to move them off their talking points.

People beg for us to try something different, but now mixing things up is considered a bad thing.

The bottom line is people want a good defense, but that's not going to happen until the talent improves.
