Using FSU (especially Winston's) confidence against them

If you saw the game, especially the pre-game locker room scene, you saw a very confident, ****y Winston/FSU team. Now that worked obviously as they rolled Clemson. They had the, and again, I hate this word, swagger, that Miami teams from the 80s and early 2000s had, and that FSU teams in the 80s and 90s had Clemson lost that game before they came on the field. Now, with that said, I'm not so sure that will work in Tallahassee against Miami. I think that was perfect in front of 80,000 hostile fans in a game like that, but when FSU is the clear favorite, at home, I think Miami can actually use it to their advantage. Everyone, and I mean everyone will pick FSU. And not just pick FSU, pick FSU to win big. The only ones who will give Miami a chance are the guys in the Miami locker room. Heck, most of the Miami fans don't think Miami has a chance. FSU will likely be favored by 10-14, they were in 2003 when Miami was actually ranked higher, and Miami went up and destroyed them in the Sean Taylor rain game. Anyway, I think the ****y, confident Winston attitude is great, but I honestly think they will take Miami lightly. Yes, I know it's a rivalry, but FSU beating Clemson the way they did was probably the best thing for Miami.

They'll be up for the game, but from now until the game they'll have everyone telling them how good they are (and they are), and it'll make Famous ****' head get even bigger. We just need to stay quiet, fly under the radar for another week, let them get all the attention and then go up to Tallahassee and shock the nation. Let them be all ****y and let **** joke around in the locker room, let them think they're going to steamroll us, and when we get on the field, we need to punch him in the mouth, and let them know we're not a punch of pussies like Clemson. We're not afraid of the spotlight like Clemson.

To sum it up, I think the confidence and ****iness will be their downfall.

ps

I know we have Wake next, but I spoke to Al, and I'm not suiting up this week, so he said I could talk about FSU.

I thought his speech was forced honestly... Come to find out it didn't matter but it came across as fake swag. JMO

FSU is a very good football team & they played almost perfect last night.. but I'm not scared in the least. Bring it on ******s.

I wasn't sure if it was forced. I think he was trying to be funny and loose. I think he's a ****y, funny, joking POS. Either way, they were loose, ****y and confident and it showed. I think that's the perfect attitude on the road in a hostile environment when people are doubting you. When you're supposed to win easily, it might not be the best way to approach a game.

Clemson isn't as bad as they looked and FSU isn't as good as they looked.

Partially my point. FSU won the game before kickoff. Clemson played like Houston in 1991 against Miami, and FSU played like Miami that year. Game was won before the clock started.

Exactly. '85, I'm not taking anything away from them.. but they looked loose bc Clemson fumbled on the 1st play of the game & FSU scored the next play. That's about as ideal of a start for a young QB as there is. Overcoming adversity is what usually gets inexperienced QB's in trouble.

FSU will undoubtedly be overconfident coming into our game. They just steamrolled the #3 team in the nation in front of a hostile crowd on national TV.

This overconfidence does not change the fact they are a very talented team that does the little things right; they don't turn the ball over, play solid defense, etc.

I just hope they don't sh*t the bed against NC State next weekend. They always seem to lose 1 game a year to a weak team.

We'll be ready for them but if Morris continues to do his best Jacory imitation (multiple INT's), we don't stand a chance. If we win the turnover battle, we can win this game.

Winston's speech was awkward and unnatural. Swagger doesn't just happen. It has to be bred into you, like our boys

Great post on the psychology of it all, Notsince. Psychology plays a much bigger role in all this than the x's and o's scheme guys think it does. College football is a game of emotion and passion. And you're dead on correct that everyone will be blowing smoke up fsu's *** for the next two weeks and Jemima will be the leader in the Heisman race.

Jambutt doesn't handle these types of situations well as a HC. EVERYONE will be talking fsu for the next 2 weeks and saying how they're going to kill us. It's really the perfect psychological angle for UM, and we are lucky they blew Clemple out the way they did from a psychological standpoint.

The question will be whether Jemima is really as good as he looks to be, or if last night was the perfect storm for fsu. If our guys in the trenches can play at a level 10, and their guys are playing at a level 7 because their heads are all blown thinking they will walk in and steam roll us, then it won't matter how good Jemima is because we'll be in his face all night. If their guys match our intensity level, then it will be a very long night for our defense because if Jemima has time to throw, he will pick us apart. This one will come down to intensity level. Period.

I hate to be that guy. But none of that will matter come November 2. Regardless of how posters feel about our defense or our offense the guys on the team are confident in their abilities and believe in one another.

We have front line talent and guys who are becoming household names and playmakers. They have front line talent and depth due to Jimbo's head start on Golden.

They have the edge at QB. Our pass defense has given up yards but force turnovers. Our run defense has been stellar and may force Janus to actually win the game on his own.

But one thing is for certain on Nov 2. As with all rivalry games, the only thing that will matter is execution. Reading your
Keys, playing with poise, protecting the football and attacking the football. Everything else is for the fans to speak on and make for good debate.

I can't wait for this game. This is going to tell us how far we have come. Whether we win or lose the war, I think it's a MUST we win the battle. I want fsu lookin like they just got their *** kicked no matter what the score board looks like. Bring the savage. Bring the goon. If they have more points then us at the end of the game, I want to see nothing but fire in all our players eyes. This gives me the peace of mind to know that we're back.

McCord needs to play a lot more in the game vs FSU. He needs to be able to get pressure on Winston. The WR's for FSU were so open all night long. Not saying Winston isn't good because he is but it's not very hard to hit wide open wr who are just sitting in the zones with no pressure.

LULZ if you think emotion and intensity doesn't matter in a rivalry game.

Did u read my post. I never once said emotion or intensity didn't matter. But when you say overconfident, you don't think FSU was overconfident headed into last nights game? How did that workout when Clemson comes out on the first play and fails to execute with poise. It reinforced their confidence. This game will he about execution and playmaking. And the team that does it will win. And the team that doesn't will no period.

Exactly. Emotion and not talent was the one reason we played FSU even for 3 quarters last year.

The talent disparity isn't in the front line guys. It's in the depth. DP would be their best linebacker. They recruited Tracy Howard and deon bush. We recruited a lot of the guys on their team. The difference is Jimbo has a head start on golden so the noles are a much deeper teAm.

So Sentrel Henderson shutting down Werner a future NFL player was all because of emotion and had nothing to do with technique or skill?

Come one guys emotion only takes you far. If you think emotion is all it's going to take to beat **** Winston you will be in for a rude awakening. They aren't going to loose confidence after a bad quarter or a bad half. Same thing with us facing UNC. We played terrible for 3 quarters did we loose confidence? Did all the emotion win them the game? No! In the end their lack of execution and poise cost them what should have been a win. We have got to play excellent football for 4 quarters. Seriously you think we are going to stroll in make a few plays and totally take all their confidence away?

Depth, talent same thing. They have more depth so they had/ have more talent overall
