Upon Further Review: Miami vs. Florida

Moten seemed like he was heading for the classic “low rated recruit, gets buried on the depth chart, transfers and is never heard from again” path but I kept wondering who was #99 during the game. Any production from the Moten, Horton, Campbell group could be a major development as you can never have enough DT depth.

If we can solidify that LG spot this OL will be better than last year and one of the best we’ve had in quite awhile. I’m hoping one of McCoy, Okunlola or Kinsler can take that spot as the season progresses but they had the entire offseason to do so and we ended up with Rodriguez starting game 1.

Sam Brown and Horton ended up getting the same number of snaps, but I think Brown started right? Horton needs to get the nod, he outplayed Brown and a message needs to be sent about the effort. Depending on what happens with the portal, it’s not out of the question that Horton is WR1 next season. I’d love to bump up his snaps and see what he can do with them, I think he has as much upside as anyone in the WR room.

Thanks @Lance Roffers always looking forward to this. I was definitely disappointed with Brown. He was very close to 2 scores and showed little desire.

Reminded me of the Gatorade commercials, “Is it in you?”

@Lance Roffers ... great work as usual ... i had the same thoughts about martinez, he looked like leveon bell with his patience ...

in regards to sam brown, i just don't see it ... draft pick my *** ... i know it was only one game, but it says alot as this is suppose to be a money year, big game with everyone watching ... but you get mandhandled at the goal line and you don't give full extension on that restrepo throw ... hopefully we take the same approach at wideout as we do with the dtackles ... play the best players regardless

Thought you would've touched on Lofton, but maybe I missed it. I hope they get the ball in his hands more often.

He did some nice things. Physical, lots of personnel combinations, used him as a FB, HB, TE, slot, RB..

For a true freshman to have that many roles and responsibilities, know them all, play game one in a game like this, and not make any egregious errors is a testament to the kid.

He was always solid, but I wanted to get this one out, so I cut it down. He's a stud and is one of those players that lead to winning plays more than their overall stats might make you think.

Appreciate the callout.

Rodriguez played because McCoy isn't in game shape yet. Was the same when we had Anez Cooper playing and we subbed him out and people didn't get why. That's also why they subbed and mixed at random occasions.

But McCoy being in there was noticeable. That's a brick wall.

Lance, how big of an issue/liability is 25?

Seems like we dont have many opponents with scary pass offenses (maybe LVille) capable of exploiting him, but if the Gators targeted him like that, I’d imagine we can expect more of that going forward.

He was fine. Made some plays, gave up some plays.

Some of his issue in this game was just time and scheme. Playing off coverage, late in a game that your team leads big, you'll give up some of those slants and then make the tackle.

He had a nice play to break up a deep ball where he did the seat belt gesture like he had him strapped up.

As a bigger CB, quick, in-breaking routes from off-coverage will be a tough ask.

That said, Florida clearly identified him as a guy to attack late in the game once we took some regulars out.

No callout, just curious. Great stuff as always!
